Anomaly Kemerli: not a disease, but a variant of the norm

The anomaly of Kemerli (Kimerli or Kimmerli) is not a disease, but an inborn deviation from the norm. Anomaly is an extra bow, a bony growth located in the upper part of the first cervical vertebra.

The anomaly of Kemerli, the treatment of which is not required for all patients, may not cause any abnormalities. Only in some cases, people with such abnormalities experience complications with health.

The brain supply is provided by the system of arteries, through which blood and nutrients move through the cervical vertebrae into its posterior parts. With the normal structure of the skeleton, in particular the spine, go into the cranial cavity, skirting the first cervical vertebra.

If a person has an anomaly Kemerli, then a half ring is seen on the vertebra, which can not always go around the arteries. Sometimes they are infringed between the vertebrae and the muscles of the neck, which leads to a violation of the cerebral circulation.

Infringement can be constant or arise at the certain position of a head, turn of a neck.

How can a person understand if he has an anomaly Kemerli? Symptoms of it are few, inconstant and different in all people. However, if there are at least some of the following symptoms, there is an occasion to call a doctor immediately.

People with this abnormality may experience:

• Dizziness that occurs when the head position is tilted or changed

• Noise or buzz in the ears, especially when tilting or turning the head

• "Shining" in the eyes, which occurs when the body or head turns

• Loss of balance, sometimes a fall due to loss of coordination. Occurs when the position changes or slopes

• Severe muscle weakness caused by stress

If the anomaly of Kemerli in a person is, and the treatment is not started, the symptoms can go into more threatening phenomena inherent in violations of the cerebral circulation:

• Severe headaches

• Twitching of the eyes, arising from time to time

• Decreased sensitivity on the face, arms, legs

• Complete disruption of coordination

• Tremor of hands or feet

• Stroke

In order to establish what caused such a complex condition of the patient, you need to conduct a complete diagnosis.

If there is a suspicion that the cause is an anomaly Kemerli, then to confirm the diagnosis is appointed:

• Study of blood flow through Doppler scan. It allows you to see exactly where and in which position of the head the cervical arteries are compressed.

• Digital radiography. The procedure is similar to the X-ray. It features higher quality images with less radiation exposure to the body

• Magnetic resonance imaging. With her help, a doctor can consider the structure of the spine, all arteries and blood vessels.

• CT scan. A procedure that clarifies the information obtained with magnetic resonance imaging.

Specific treatment from the anomaly does not exist, which is quite logical.

However, patients are helped by the treatment of symptoms, which is tailored for each patient individually. The purpose of such treatment is to weaken the tone of the neck muscles, to ensure normal blood flow.

Anomaly Kemerli, more precisely, its symptoms are eliminated with the help of simple manipulations. The patient is assigned:

• Massage

• Acupuncture

• Hirudotherapy

• Wearing special collars fixing the neck

• In more severe cases, the normalization of blood circulation with the help of medications.

In addition, every person who has such a deviation in the structure of the spine, receives individual recommendations related to the characteristics of prevention and behavior. Common to all are:

• Limitation of sudden movements and physical exertion, especially in the neck

• Gymnastic exercises, selected strictly individually

• Continuous observation of a neurologist

• Immediate contact with a doctor in case of an exacerbation
