In November 1964 in Moscow, the Monument to the Conquerors of Space was opened, when designing it, premises for the space museum were provided. The idea of creating such an exhibition belonged to the well-known designer S. P. Korolev. In September 1967, the corresponding resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU on the organization of the Cosmonautics Museum in the premises of the monument was issued.

A little later in front of him created the Alley of Heroes of the Cosmos. Now it is a favorite holiday destination not only for locals, but also for numerous tourists. Children here can go rollerblading, scooter or bicycle, which they with enormous pleasure and do at the first opportunity.

The opening of the museum was timed to the 20th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight into space and was held in April 1981. It should be noted that the Cosmonautics Museum at that time occupied an area of 3200 square meters, of which only 800 square meters were used. In the halls were exhibited more than 100 exhibits, including samples of space technology and equipment of astronauts.

To date, more than 85,000 items are stored in museum collections. In May 2006 the museum was closed for reconstruction, after which an additional area of 4500 sq.m. appeared. Three years later, in April, a new and very interesting exposition was opened. This helped attract even more curious visitors.
