Wooden frames can be restored by themselves

In spite of the fact that many put metal-plastic windows, there are still those who prefer windows from natural wood. The choice in favor of a wooden frame is easy to explain - natural materials always have better qualities than non-natural ones. Wooden frames are ecological, safe for people and, recently, prestigious. Give a beautiful view of the old wooden frame with your own hands. To do this, you need to have at your disposal free time, the right tools and materials.

Even old wooden frames can be insulated, made warm and soundproof and covered with varnish or red to give them an updated look.

If the frame is infected with a fungus, it must be disposed of by scraping. It is also advisable to remove part of the wood that was damaged. The antifungal formulation will help prevent the formation of fungal infections in the future. You can buy such a composition in any building material store. The frame is treated in accordance with the instructions.

The deformed frame (saggy, skewed) can be repaired. To do this, align the frame and work with glue, which is suitable for gluing wood, all joints. The gluing is carried out using a clamp, which clamps the frame to better "grasp" the frame parts. Replace the dried spikes (stud joint) by drilling the old spike and inserting a new one.

The rotten fragments of the frame are removed (cut off) by the chisel. It is necessary to remove all the rotted part, and it can be restored with the help of sawdust and PVA glue, from which the mixture is prepared. In addition, you can use a special, ready-made epoxy putty, which is sold in the economic or construction shop.

The old fittings can also be replaced if it is broken or has an unattractive appearance.

To ensure the sound and heat insulation properties of the window, it is necessary to use a filler. It can be purchased at the store of household goods (foam rubber or other insulation). In the inner part of the frame a groove is made, along the entire perimeter, into which the filler is inserted. It can be sealed with putty or glass glue.

The final stage of the restoration work is the coating of the frame with varnish or paint. The choice of paint should be taken seriously. It should have moisture-repellent properties, be elastic, safe for humans and with a minimal odor. The elasticity of the paint should be maximum. In this case, there will be no cracking in the cold, swelling and drying out under the influence of the environment.

Carry out painting in dry, sunny weather, at the optimum air temperature (information on this is indicated on the paint package). The window is cleaned of dust and dirt, the glass is pasted with paint tape, to avoid getting paint on it. Removes the layer of the old coating (using sandpaper, spatula, etc.), after which the cracks in the frame are filled with putty. After it dries, you can apply paint or varnish. The coating is applied in two layers, the second after the complete drying of the first.

On average, the restoration of one standard window will take 10-12 hours. However, the effect after the upgrade will be excellent! In addition, as a work done independently, you can always be sure. In addition to significant cost savings (compensation for employees), such work brings moral satisfaction. After all, it's nice to admire the result of your own labor, the benefit of which will be felt by all family members.
