Bed frame with own hands

Despite the fact that today there is furniture for sale in almost all colors and sizes, many are interested in the question - how to make a bed with your own hands? This is due not only to the fact that high-quality and reliable furniture costs a lot of money, but also the desire to equip your home in accordance with your own preferences and ideas about what a comfortable apartment is. To assemble a bed at home, in principle, is not so difficult. The main thing is to have patience and prepare everything you need beforehand.

Before you start making a bed, you need to find out the size of the mattress, which will fit on this piece of furniture, and only then begin to build a bed frame. Let's take as a basis a mattress of standard sizes - 200х150х25 cm.

In order to collect a wooden bed you will need:

• Board dimensions of 250x30x2 cm;
• Rack 150х4х2 cm;
• A beam of 200х4х4 sm;
• Stain on wood ;
• Varnish based on polyurethane;
• glue;
• Wood screws.

First you need to make blanks from the board, you should do it in accordance with the internal size of the frame. In this case, the bed frame will have dimensions of 200x150. The front and back walls must be 150 cm long at the same time.

A 150 cm blank is divided into three equal parts using a simple pencil. Now you need to decide what the depth will be, on which the mattress will enter the skeleton of the bed. If you proceed from the parameters of the mattress, then it should be 5 cm. Accordingly: 5 cm + 4 cm (thickness of the supporting bars of the frame) + 2 cm (thickness of the bars) = 11 cm. From the top of the workpiece, measure exactly 11 cm and at the points marked Pencil, we fasten to the workpiece with the help of self-tapping screws.

The side billets of the frame must be 204 cm in length. From the top edge of the workpiece, measure seven centimeters and break the line with a special padded cord. Now, on this line, you can fasten the support beam, fixing it with screws from the back side. Do this carefully, carefully measuring the thickness of the wood blanks and selecting the correct size of the screw, otherwise you can easily damage the front side.

When the support beam is screwed, you can take up the main bars. While fixing the bars, it is necessary to observe a clear indentation, which is two centimeters.

Now you can put an additional board on the front workpiece of the frame and glue the ends with glue for wood. Then, on the back side, the reinforcing bars should be screwed with self-tapping screws, this will make the bed frame more durable. The upper edges of the ends can be rounded, if desired, to make them figured or carved using a jigsaw.

The next stage will be staining the blanks with stain and coating them with lacquer (varnish is desirable for this purpose to choose quick-drying). After the first layer has dried, it is necessary to apply a second layer, after drying the frame for the bed is ready for assembly.

Now it is possible to twist the workpieces with the help of self-tapping screws, connecting the structure together, for this purpose the main supporting bar is laid on the supporting bars of the frame. If you do not have a 4x4 bar at hand, you can replace it with two 4x2 cm strips rolled together. The main bars are screwed with self-tapping screws at an angle of forty-five degrees.

Rack jumpers are laid on the supporting bars and fixed, the gap between the slats should be no more than five centimeters, this will make the bed frame more reliable. After the jumpers are fixed in their places, additional bolts must be screwed in the center, which will serve as legs for the frame.

We assembled the frame of the bed with our own hands, without the help of a specialist and using the simplest devices. You can put a mattress on it and place a bed in the room.
