An allergy to water - what is it?

Everyone knows that a person basically consists of water. If there is a loss of moisture by the body at a level of 10-15%, then this leads to a lethal outcome. But, despite everything said, some people have such a disease as Aquagenic Urticaria - an allergy to water.

People have long suffered from various allergic reactions to these or other products, and paradoxically it did not sound, but one of them may be ordinary water. The allergy to water can appear both after the usual shower intake, and after a person gets wet in the rain or bathed in a pond or sea.

Symptoms of this type of allergy

More recently, this problem has received very little attention, since it was believed that an allergy to water is a very rare disease. Recently, more complaints are coming from people that they have this particular type of allergy.

The first sign of an allergic reaction is a localized rash that appears on certain areas of the body, for example, on the hands, abdomen or on the neck, under the knees, on the face. Also, an allergy to water can be accompanied by the appearance of urticaria, which is characterized by itching, and it can be determined by the presence of red spots, with their center slightly lighter than the entire spot.

If allergies first appear on separate parts of the body, then gradually they spread to much larger areas of the body. Unlike other species, an allergy to water does not cause coughing and runny nose, as well as swelling, cases of anaphylactic shock are not registered.

There are difficult cases when a person is allergic to any contact with water and even from his own sweat, but these are single options. Many people have an allergic reaction to tap water, and there is no allergy to sea water. In some cases, on the contrary, sea and mineral water causes allergy, whereas the water reacts normally to tap water. But in this case there will be an allergy not to water, but to some of its components.

Why does this type of allergy occur?

All specialists agree that this is a consequence of weakened immunity. It is weakened by taking certain medications, transferred kidney, liver, adrenal and other organs that are involved in the process of filtering everything entering the human body, even through the pores of the skin.

Very often, the allergy is not to the water itself, but to the substances that make up its composition or are used together with it, for example, soap, shampoo, detergents. Also, there is sometimes a poor-quality treatment of tap water and components that cause allergies may get into it. The same applies to allergies to certain water, since there are a lot of different impurities in the water, and the body of each person reacts individually to them.

But there is also a true allergy to water, while allergic reactions appear after contact with any water. People suffering from this type of allergy should be very careful to conduct any water procedures.

Methods of treatment

While this type of allergy is poorly understood and there is no medical remedy for such an allergy. But in all people who are allergic to water, increased immunoglobulin E and histamine. Therefore, the treatment of allergic diseases is to reduce these indicators, for which antihistamines are taken in the form of tablets, ointments, gels.

In some people, these allergic reactions go away on their own after the contact with water is completed. Usually this happens in 30-60 minutes, but it all depends on the individual qualities and reactions of the person.

Despite all this, water is necessary for human life, and it is not possible to do without it. It is necessary to monitor your health and not to engage in self-medication.
