Gestosis is a disease in pregnancy that causes malfunctions in the normal functioning of organs and systems responsible for the life support of not only the mother, but also the future child. Pre-eclampsia is the stage leading to brain edema, loss of vision, decreased response to external stimuli, and drowsiness. The listed signs can be manifested from several minutes to several days.

The most severe form of gestosis is eclampsia (late gestosis). May show up in the last trimester of pregnancy, but only if the previous stages of the disease have not been treated. The pressure of a pregnant woman can rise to a critical level, which can lead to a stroke or loss of consciousness, premature ripening of the placenta or its detachment, and in the worst case, the death of the mother, the child, or both.
