American Eskimo Spitz - a small miracle

A snow-white, fluffy, restless lump with black beady eyes, the American Eskimo Spitz looks like. A small room dog will perfectly cope with the role of a companion and a sensitive guard. Small size and light character provide dogs of this breed with a steady popularity among pet lovers.

History of deducing

There are two versions of the breed of American Eskimo Spitz. According to the first, in the early twentieth century in the US were imported German spitz. Negative perception of all Aryan gave a new name - American Eskimo Spitz. Both breeds do have a lot in common, but they are positioned as different.

The second version suggests that the appearance of this dog is the result of crossing several original breeds brought to America by immigrants. These include white kasehond, German spitz, white Italian spitz. It turned out to be a small, compact and very intelligent dog.

The first to notice the usual circus artists. The rationality of these dogs, the ability to learn, along with an attractive appearance, quickly made them the favorites of artists and the public.

After the presentation, the audience gladly bought puppies for a decent amount of money. In the States and beyond, and today, it is quite expensive to have an American Eskimo Spitz dog. The price of the puppy ranges from 500 to 1000 dollars.

A new breed of dogs was officially recognized only in 1985 by the American Cynological Club. A little later it was recognized by such organizations as AKC, CKC, NKC, UKC, ACR, APRI.

Description

All dogs of this breed are divided into three groups:

  1. Standard Spitz. Height at withers - from 38 cm to 48 cm, live weight - from 8 kg to 16 kg.
  2. Miniature American Eskimo Spitz. Growth from 30 cm to 38 cm, weight from 4.5 kg to 9 kg.
  3. Toy. Height - from 23 cm to 30 cm, weight - from 2.4 kg to 4.5 kg.

Many signs in animals are similar:

  • Head - small, with a sharp muzzle;
  • Ears - triangular, rounded, covered with short hair;
  • Trunk - compact and strong, slightly elongated;
  • Tail - bent on the back;
  • Intelligence - high, the dog easily and with pleasure gives in to training and development of circus tricks;
  • Character - fearless, playful and flexible;
  • Life expectancy - up to 16 years.

Wool is a luxurious decoration for these dogs. Purely white or cream (we allow the shade to brown), it completely covers the body of the animal. On the chest and neck forms a magnificent collar.

The hair covering consists of two layers - undercoat and ostevogo hair. The latter is absolutely straight and very soft. This "coat" does not miss the water and perfectly warms the dog. Haircut animals are not required. With proper care of the coat, there are no problems with it.

Content

There are several features of the content of American Spitz:

  • The stormy and cheerful nature of the dog requires a way out. Daily walks with active games will perfectly help to solve this problem.
  • Care of the coat requires careful combing. Do this at least twice a week. During molting, this procedure should be daily.
  • Nutrition of the dog is an important issue. Categorically, you can not feed the animal with scraps from the owners table. The best quality industrial feeds are best.
  • At any irritating factor Spitz reacts with loud barking. It is necessary to teach the dog to be quiet from childhood.

disadvantages

The American Eskimo Spitz requires constant attention. Unlimited love for the owner has its negative side. For a long time you can not leave an animal alone. He will have a nervous breakdown.

There are also problems concerning the health of dogs. Blue-eyed individuals suffer from blindness. Malnutrition leads to dysplasia of the hip and knee joints. The lack of preventive control of fleas can result in skin dermatitis, which will require long treatment. But with the right content and education, the best friend is not found.
