All kinds of finishing ceilings

The finishing of the ceiling is one of the important components of apartment renovation. Modern technologies make it possible to implement it in various ways. At the same time you can always hear the question: "In what way can you arrange the ceilings with your own hands?".

All types of finishes that can be used, including without using the help of professional masters, are presented in this article.

Ceiling whitewashing

This is a traditional type of ceiling decoration, which does not require large financial costs. When whitewashing, the surface is covered with a special chalky or lime mortar without or with the addition of dye. Ceilings with this finish perfectly combined with most types of interior.

Before whitewashing, a number of preparatory works are required, including cleaning the ceiling, leveling it, as well as plastering and putty.

The undisputed advantage of such finishing is the low cost of materials and ease of repair work. There are disadvantages, among which are:

  • Labor intensity of surface preparation for whitewashing;
  • Time costs;
  • Short-lived coating, which loses its original color after 2-3 years.

The disadvantages of finishing the ceiling through whitening are also its inability to withstand high humidity and a negative reaction to water, as well as greater march in the course of work.

Painting

Considering the budget types of decoration of ceilings, many prefer this particular option, because it is practical and easy to care for.

To the advantages of painting, along with the low cost of its implementation, refers to the ability to choose any color or shade.

As for the shortcomings, they are in many respects similar to the minuses of whitewashing. In particular, before painting, labor-intensive preparatory work is required. In addition, this finish is short-lived and it has a tendency to appear small cracks on the surface.

Pasting with wallpaper

This type of finishing ceilings refers to a relatively new ways and is characterized by beauty and cheapness. There are many kinds of special, dense wallpapers on the market. At the moment, the best of them are considered non-woven. They differ in beauty, strength and do not require special care.

Those who decided to choose such a ceiling finish, you should know that it's impossible to stick wallpaper on them alone. In addition, the disadvantages of wallpaper include their predisposition to folding and peeling off, as well as low durability of this option of finishing.

Adhesive ceilings

Finishing with special tiles looks beautiful and has many advantages. These include the lack of the need for special preparation of the grounds. Usually tiles are made of expanded polystyrene and are extremely light. Manufacturers produce variants with various relief and graphic designs.

Adhesive ceilings are easily installed and can be repaired by replacing damaged or fallen tiles. As already mentioned, it can be glued to the surface of the ceiling without laborious work. In particular, tiles can mask cracks and slight flaws.

The drawback of the glued finish is the presence of seams. In addition, the tiles are "afraid" of direct sunlight, under which it quickly dims, and after installing such ceilings, further installation of fire, ventilation and other communications is difficult.

Suspended structures

In recent decades, new types of finishing the ceiling in the house, characterized by multifunctionality. It's about hanging options. They allow you to change the geometry of the room, providing a different level of the ceiling, and to hide from the prying eyes the various components of communication systems, as well as any flaws in the basement. In addition, the suspended structures look attractive and become an ornament of any interior.

Plasterboard ceilings

Such structures consist of guides and tiles fixed to them, made of gypsum board. The advantages of such ceilings is the simplicity of their installation, low cost and the possibility of creating multi-level ceiling structures. True, in the latter case it will be necessary to attract a master. The drawback of the drywall ceiling is also its "hydrophobia". Otherwise, this option of finishing is an excellent choice in terms of the ratio of excellent appearance and performance to cost.

Cassette structures

As already mentioned, suspended ceilings in the kitchen can be very different. In particular, you can choose the cassette constructions. They consist of thin plates, in which the front side is painted in different colors, and can also have a relief pattern. With proper maintenance and regular cleaning, the cassette ceilings look great. They are quickly dismantled and washed. Thanks to the use of light metals and alloys, cassette structures are lightweight, tolerate temperature changes well and are not afraid of moisture. The latter circumstance allows us to rank them among the most suitable types of ceiling for the kitchen. The main disadvantage of cassette options is their high price.

For all the advantages of such ceilings will have to pay quite expensive. In addition, cassette structures have low sound insulation.

Rack variant

To the suspended types of the ceiling finish, the apartment also includes structures consisting of long metal plates made of aluminum, steel and various alloys. Such rails are attached to the intermediate profile and special corners, mounted around the perimeter of the walls of the room, in their upper part. This type of ceiling finish, the photo of which is presented below, is designed for installation in small areas. The market presents a variety of options in a wide range of colors, from mirrored to executed in gold tones. In addition, some manufacturers offer variants with corrugated patterns.

Among the advantages of railing ceiling structures are: lightness, a wide choice of colors and shapes, the ability to carry out installation of multi-tier structures and decoration of arches, simplicity of finishing works, moisture and heat resistance, and durability.

As for the shortcomings of such ceilings, they can be attributed to the propensity of metal rails to deformation, as well as the difficulties that arise when it is necessary to maintain spaces and communications located above them.

Stretch ceiling

This is one of the most beautiful finishes, which allows designers to create original interiors in different styles.

Stretch ceilings are made of strong polymeric materials. They can be made in a wide range of colors and they can be painted using the method of photo printing.

In addition to exceptional beauty, such designs are distinguished by their durability and water resistance. This means that your repair will not suffer, even if the neighbors from above decide to arrange a "worldwide flood". The advantages of the tension structures are also their incombustibility, high strength, the absence of restrictions in the field of application, as well as excellent insulating properties.

Unfortunately, this kind of finishing the ceilings in the apartment (photo below) has its drawbacks. Among them:

  • high price;
  • Complexity of installation;
  • Sagging in case of very hot weather or rising temperatures;
  • Deterioration of elasticity.

In addition, suspended ceilings, like any other suspended structures, "conceal" when installing almost 20 cm of space in the room. This makes them not the best option for use in rooms of small height.

Filing options

The main difference between these ceilings is the installation on profiles, which are installed directly on the floor. This means that this kind of suspended ceilings does not hide the space and is well suited for any premises.

At the same time behind such constructions it is possible to hide any small irregularities on the surface of the overlappings.

Modules of false ceilings can be made of MDF, chipboard, plastic, metal or gypsum board.

The disadvantages of such coatings include the impossibility of installing luminaires on the ceiling, the large weight of the structure and the relatively small choice of decorative solutions.

Types of finishing the ceiling in a wooden house

For such residential buildings, the best choice is the repair of environmentally friendly materials. In particular, the perfect option for the ceilings is the lining of wood. This universal way of decoration will decorate any private house. The following options are available:

  • Lining. This material is used most often. It is a board treated in a special way and equipped with a groove and tongue for easy installation. Even a person who does not have much experience in manufacturing repair works can even trim the ceiling by hand. Its distinctive features are strength and durability. In addition, the lining is recognized as an excellent soundproofing device.
  • Plywood. To finish the ceiling in a wooden house it is used quite rarely. However, with the help of plywood, you can create an original interior design, as well as make a home without any extra costs. Today, the market offers options with a decorative layer made of asbestos paper, plastic, etc.
  • Veneer. This decoration is able to completely simulate the appearance of any kind of wood. At the same time, the cost of panels is several times higher than the price of a lining, and the options for their finishing are more diverse.
  • Woody massif. This option of decoration is the most prestigious, beautiful and status. It is available in the form of panels that can be easily and quickly mounted by hand.

Other types of finishing of wooden ceiling

If the options given above do not suit you, then pay attention to the cheap and affordable plaster.

It is superimposed on a grid of shingles, stuffed between crossbeams. The mortar adheres to the shingles and the relief mesh. This ensures the strength and durability of the coating. It is impossible to plaster the ceiling independently without having a certain skill in carrying out such work, as this is a complex and time-consuming procedure that it is better to entrust to professionals.

Drywall also refers to inexpensive options. Among other things, it allows you to create original multi-level ceiling structures and perfectly masks defects.

Many owners of private wooden houses prefer to use such a durable and beautiful kind of finish, like a stretch ceiling. However, experts recommend that installation be carried out only 2-3 years after the completion of the construction of the dwelling.

Now you know how you can arrange the ceilings with your own hands. All types of finishes, the photos of which are presented above, have both advantages and disadvantages, therefore, the choice of a particular option should be approached by carefully weighing all the pros and cons.
