Knitting on the Fork: Schemes and Features

In order to bind your hands a soft, airy and light thing, you can use the original tool, called a fork.

This kind of needlework is not new, but for some reason it is absolutely undeservedly forgotten. But this technique of knitting is fraught with many opportunities, the use of which will make homemade things more original and interesting.

What is a fork for knitting?

Despite the similarity to the name with the usual famous kitchen tool, the fork for needlework can be just a piece of hard wire folded in the shape of the English letter "U".

Two spokes can be used, fastened together at some distance by plates with holes, which allow you to adjust the required width of the loop.

Special plugs that are commercially available can also be used.

This tool is so simple that even a child can learn the basic rules of handling it.

Moreover, for such a process as knitting on a fork, schemes can always be found, for example, in magazines.

Technology of knitting

For a lesson like knitting on a fork, the patterns are really simple and straightforward.

In general, the fork is only used to hold the loops, and the knitting process itself is performed using a conventional hook. This device is suitable for knitting air and light strips. The specific type of result will depend on the method of knitting:

- a column with a crochet;

- a column without a crochet;

- polustolbikom.

You can also knit posts with two or three overlays.

The process of knitting in all cases is that with the hook the usual conceived loops knit, and the thread thus wraps around the spokes of the frame, which are some distance from each other.

Knitting on the fork of the half-loop pattern

First, as usual, an air loop is fixed on the hook. Then the working thread is passed behind the frame. In this case, the hook should be held in the right hand, and the knitting fork, respectively, in the left.

The hook reaches the middle of the thread, moving along the front of the frame, and grasps the thread. A loop is sewn. Then the frame rotates around itself so that the hook is behind it. It must be taken out of the loop, moved forward and re-inserted.

Working thread wrapped around the frame in the direction to the right. It must be hooked and the next loop connected. Next, knitting continues in a similar way. It is important to stick to the middle of the frame, otherwise the seam can turn out ugly and uneven.

When the knitting of the strip is finished, it must be removed from the frame and used for further fabrication of the product. But you need to work with it carefully, otherwise loose loops will dissolve.

If you pull both sides of the two ends of the strip, you can get a decorative finishing cord. It can also be used in such a process as knitting on a fork of a model or scheme that interested the author.

Why use a knitting fork

The fork is a unique and non-trivial knitting tool. With its help you can get extraordinarily delicate, airy and elegant things, such as knitted sweaters, stoles, patterns.

For such an interesting lesson, like knitting on a fork, models and patterns can be picked up for free. Knitting on the fork, patterns, models, and other nuances of this kind of needlework are discussed in numerous forums.
