Acupressure, its use and contraindications

Acupressure is an ancient oriental method for the therapy of many pathologies. It is based on the impact on the relevant points on the body, which are associated with internal organs.

This type of treatment is characterized by an individual approach to the patient, a gradual and complex impact on the pathogenetic mechanisms of diseases through external action on the active points of the body. Since it has long been known that the disease of one organ should be treated as if the whole body is sick, because all the structures of the human body are closely interrelated.

Acupressure is somewhat similar to acupuncture, but with it, a finger tap is applied to the corresponding parts of the body, which leads to an improvement in the condition of the patients and the restoration of disturbed functions.

These sites in modern medicine are called biologically active points. I must say that there are 365 of them on the human body, and all of them have certain peculiarities. So, they are characterized by low electrocutaneous resistance, significant electrical potential and high skin temperature. In addition, they are characterized by increased pain sensitivity, accelerated metabolism and increased oxygen uptake.

What is the impact of acupressure on the human body?

Depending on what points to act on, you can stimulate or relax the nervous system, increase blood circulation and tissue nutrition in the body, influence the functioning of the endocrine system glands, eliminate pain of various etiologies, and remove muscle spasm and tone.

Such a wide range of effects on the human body allows you to apply acupressure with the following pathologies:

• neuroses and depressive conditions;

• diseases of the nervous system, including neuritis, neuralgia, vegetative-vascular disorders, sciatica. In addition, acupressure of the head perfectly fights not only with migraine attacks of neurogenic origin, but also it can improve the whole organism;

• diseases of the circulatory system, including essential hypertension, reflex angina, extrasystole (if it is not associated with severe myocardial damage);

• pathology of the digestive system, especially its functional disorders.

Spot acupressure is widely used , which is especially often used for lesions of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue. This therapeutic technique perfectly helps to cope with the pain syndrome in osteochondrosis, arthritis of rheumatic or allergic origin, radiculitis, spondylosis.

Despite the positive effect on the body, the use of acupressure is impossible in the presence of benign tumors, cancer, blood pathologies, acute infectious diseases, myocardial infarction, acute thrombosis or embolism, tuberculosis, acute exhaustion, peptic ulcer. Do not apply to biologically active points among pregnant women, the elderly, and children under one year of age.

It is worth noting that with each disease you need to work only on the corresponding points. It is interesting that they, in the main, are not located in the area of the affected areas. So, with cardiac disorders, a non-chest and non-ribbed acupressure massage is performed, and in case of severe headaches, a pinpoint effect in the area of 2-3 lumbar vertebrae is recommended.
