A tree seedling requires careful treatment

Horticulture is a troublesome business, requiring not only considerable effort, but also a lot of knowledge. One can not create a beautiful garden by planting trees on the plot. Yes, and it must still be able to properly execute. Where to buy seedlings of trees, how to plant them, when it is better to do - these and other questions the gardener has to solve regularly.

Planting time

Seedling of a tree or shrub should be planted in spring or autumn - during a rest period. In the springtime, this is done before budding, and in the fall - after the cessation of growth. Planting seedlings in each of these seasons has its advantages.

Spring method ensures good plant survival. At this time in the soil there is a large supply of moisture, which enables the seedlings to settle in a new place. The plant has time to get stronger before the summer heat begins. This procedure is best done immediately after thawing the soil.

Autumn planting contributes to the improvement of the conditions for the formation of new roots. The presence of a large amount of moisture helps plants to settle down. However, the autumn tree seedling is more difficult to keep from rodents and freezing roots.

Right choice

There are several rules that are recommended when purchasing seedlings:

  • Make purchases only in nurseries or specialized stores;
  • Do not take plants with mechanical damage or underdeveloped;
  • Roots should not be dry and brittle.

A healthy young tree of a two-year-old tree must have at least three branches up to 30 centimeters long, a developed kidney and a stem thickness of at least 2 cm. The branches on the trunk should be evenly distributed, being 40-60 centimeters in length.

Getting ready beforehand

The landing pit must be excavated beforehand. For spring work, prepare a deepening in the soil in autumn, and before autumn planting - a few weeks before planting.

Under the tree seedling, a pit of about 80 centimeters deep and 1 meter in diameter is required. Shrubs need a smaller hollow - 60 centimeters in diameter and half a meter deep. Large pits are necessary to ensure that the young and not yet grown roots of the plant grow in soft soil, and not break through a dense layer of earth.

Selecting a place for planting, you first need to remove the top layer of soil and fold it on the edge of the pit. The bottom layer is added separately. Then a prefabricated fertilizer, consisting of double superphosphate, sulphate and potassium chloride, wood ash, lime-pushers and 1-2 buckets of compost or well-repaired manure is poured into the pit.

All this is well mixed with half the top layer of the soil. The third part of the resulting mixture is taken out of the pit to be used later. If the soil is heavy, add a few buckets of sand to the extracted land. With sandy soil, the bottom of the pit should be filled with clay.

Landing

In the pit we make a mound and install a tree seedling on it so that its root neck is a few centimeters above the level of the edge of the depression. It is necessary to monitor the uniform distribution of roots along the landing pit. You need to fill the ground so that there are no voids. Then we compact the soil around the seedling, but do it very carefully so as not to damage the roots.

After planting, around the tree we make a hole in which we pour one or two buckets of water. Watering will ensure good contact of the roots with the soil.
