Most of our compatriots have already visited Thailand several times. This country attracts with its exotic beauty, hospitality of local residents and, what to hide, very affordable prices. Therefore, it is not surprising that every second Russian family, planning its vacation, makes a choice in favor of Thai vacations. In addition, there are a lot of sights here that you can re-discover each new arrival. In this category, the Erawan waterfall, located at some distance from the noisy tourist Pattaya, uniquely falls. But it is here that all those who want to get acquainted with the natural beauties of Thailand are eager to go.

What is Erawan?

If you have never had the pleasure of visiting the Kingdom of Thailand, the Erawan Falls will be the first thing that a guide will ask you at the hotel. You will meet with this name every time when you contact the numerous street tourist offices or start inquiring about other tourists, how they spend their holidays in the country and what they have seen. So what is this mysterious Erawan, and why it must necessarily be seen?

Keep in mind that Eravan is the National Park of Thailand, which houses the most beautiful waterfall in the country, having seven levels. Each of them is beautiful in its own way, so tourists try to see them all. The park itself is also a protected area, inhabited by wild animals, including obtrusive monkeys. They always jump out to meet tourists and with great curiosity inspect them. But this is not all that can present its visitors an amazing place.

National Park: a brief description

Of course, most tourists come to the National Park to see the Erawan Falls. Thailand refers to countries where each tour includes a real entertainment complex. Therefore, for many visitors of the park is a real discovery that, in addition to the waterfall, there is something to see in the national park.

The reserve area consists of five hundred and fifty square meters of jungle, rivers and waterfalls. The date of the park's foundation is 1975, and at that time Eravan became the twelfth such place in Thailand.

It is interesting that the territory of the park is protected by a mountain range, so there is a special climate here. It contributes to the fact that the flora and fauna of Eravan is rich and very interesting for tourists.

In the thick jungle there are comfortable paths, and before the entrance to the park all groups are told about the rules of behavior when meeting wild animals. Keep in mind that there are no predators here, they are successfully replaced by cute monkeys, who can and rob a crooked tourist.

But all this is worthless little things, when you are waiting for a unique and fascinating waterfall Eravan. About it and will be discussed in the following sections of the article.

The meaning of the name of the park and the waterfall

You probably already noticed that the national park and the famous waterfall have the same name. Surprisingly, it was the latter that gave the name to the reserved lands, and not the other way around, as it usually happens.

The fact is that the Thais have seven cascades of waterfall associated with a mythical animal - the elephant Eravan. According to legend, this animal is the chief among all elephants in the universe, it has thirty-three heads and can fulfill desires. The Thais themselves portray Eravan with three heads, in Bangkok there is even a museum built in the form of a body of a mythical elephant. Tourists say that this building is simply an incredible sight. In addition, it is surrounded by a magnificent green park with ponds, where fish and turtles live.

But let's go back to our majestic waterfall.

Erawan Waterfall: where is

The National Park, where the famous cascade of waterfalls is located, is located near the city of Kanchanaburi. More precisely, they are separated by about sixty-five kilometers. Usually this way takes more than one hour, but if you go on a guided tour with good guides, then this time flies by unnoticed.

Those who travel to the Erawan waterfall from Pattaya will have to spend about four hours on the road. Such a long journey is poorly tolerated by children, so they should not be taken with you on an excursion. But for adults this trip will be a complete pleasure.

General description of the waterfall

If you are going on a trip to the Erawan waterfall, photos from your trip will be the envy of friends and acquaintances who stayed at home, or simply did not go with you. It is difficult to describe in words these incredible cascades, each of which has its own character and, as many say, even the mood. But let's not run ahead. About everything in order.

The total length of the waterfall is almost two thousand meters, and the vertical height - just over eight hundred meters. Each of the seven tiers has its own name, features and color of water. Those who have already traveled to the Eravan waterfall many times say that water constantly changes color from cool menthol to deep and rich turquoise. Some pools have a bright emerald shade.

On all tiers you can swim and sunbathe. Almost throughout the length of the cascades from the first to the seventh there are locker rooms, toilets and coffee shops. So tired travelers will be where to relax and relax under the pacifying sound of water.

It is interesting that on many tiers there are special numerous observation platforms, from where a stunning view of the entire park and the waterfall opens. The first cascade is paved with an asphalt, then it turns into a path, and the bamboo staircase leads to the very last tiers. It is worth noting that not every tourist can climb so high into the mountains, because the climb is pretty steep and makes you sweat hard. But those who master the way will be rewarded with the most amazing landscape in their life. In all its glory, it will open the National Park, the neighborhood and, of course, the majestic Erawan Falls lying at its feet.

Photos from this point are among the rarest daredevils, and they are really gorgeous. Only here a person becomes a witness of the birth of a waterfall formed by two small rivers - Mong Lai and Omtal. They have crystal clear water, which remains so on all the seven tiers of Eravan.

The first tier

Cascades on the falls are considered to be from the bottom. Therefore, we will not depart from the general rule. The first stage is called Lai Khien Rang, and it is the most popular among local residents. Here are equipped with sun loungers, tables and simple gazebos. Therefore, Thai people often come here no picnics and to buy with children. Empty in the first tier never happens, so tourists have to climb much higher if they want to fully enjoy the beauty of the waterfall and plunge into its clean, refreshing waters. From the very entrance to Lai Khin Rang leads an asphalt road, and the rise itself seems quite flat.

The second tier

To get to Vang Mach, as the second cascade is called, tourists will have to cross the checkpoint. The fact is that the foodstuffs and drinks are strictly forbidden to carry above the first tier. They should be left in the storage room, the only exception is a half-liter bottle of water per person. But for her it is necessary to leave a pledge, which is returned, when on the way back you show the guard an empty container. Thus, the park administration makes sure that the protected places do not become a dump.

Vang Mach also has a lot of local residents, although much less than on the first tier of the waterfall. In the basin of the basin there live fish, which with pleasure pincer the deceased pieces of skin from tourists. Such peeling is a rather pleasant pleasure, if you do not swim deeply. Fish there are already of a different size, and bite they are palpable.

The third tier

There is already a narrower path, winding between the twisted roots of trees. On Pha, Tog want to get to all tourists, because here the water is broken visas from a height of ten meters, forming a beautiful translucent water wall. Bathing in the cascade is a great pleasure. The pool is quite extensive and the tourists frolicking in the water do not interfere with each other's enjoying the beauty of these places.

The Fourth Cascade

The fourth tier - Ok Nang Phishyah - is usually very popular with children. Right under the streams of water are two smooth boulders, from where you can roll down straight from the hill. There is always laughter, because no one expects to see such an attraction in nature.

It is interesting that on the way to Oak Nang Phisya there is a tree, surrounded by colored pieces of cloth and bright scarves. According to legend, once upon a time a young woman died in this place. Now her spirit is forever attached to the waterfall, so the local people try to coax him with beautiful ribbons tied on the trunk of a tree.

The Fifth Cascade

To this level, the ascent becomes more steep, many do not want to waste their energy and turn to the path leading down. But if you have decided to climb to the very top, then you are waiting for Bya Milonga - the fifth cascade of the Erawan waterfall.

There are much fewer tourists here, many do not swim. After all, their goal is the very top, to which it is necessary to overcome two more tiers.

The Sixth Cascade

Dong Phlyksa is the sixth tier of the famous waterfall. It is located in a dense forest and the stream has several branches. This gives the pool an incredible charm and uniqueness.

The seventh tier

To Phu Pha Eravan leads a narrow steep staircase of bamboo. This is the heaviest and steepest climb all the way, but, believe me, on top you will instantly forget about fatigue and scorching heat. The spectacle that has opened to your eyes will become the picture that you will be delighted to tell all your acquaintances.

On the seventh cascade there is a wide stone platform, which is partly the bottom of the river, therefore it is flooded. But this does not in the least hinder tired travelers, rather, on the contrary, it gives a desired and refreshing coolness.

In order to go down to the foot of the waterfall, tourists need to go to another edge of the site and go down a separate path. Many argue that there are several cascades above, but park visitors are not allowed there because of the height and danger of falling.

Rules of behavior on the waterfall

In order to have a great rest on Erawan, it is necessary to observe the simplest rules established by the administration of the park:

  • Do not bring food and drinks;
  • do not litter;
  • Take care when climbing and descending;
  • Do not go higher than the second cascade after four o'clock in the afternoon (this is prohibited);
  • Move around the park only along paths and paths;
  • When meeting with wild animals observe calmness and caution (monkeys often bite too active tourists).
