"Zareva the rain" (Shukshin): the analysis of the story

Russian prose of the sixties is rich in works that express a new view of the world around us. Public official propaganda literature has been replaced by books in which many historical events are reinterpreted, which were recently interpreted quite unambiguously. Of course, there was no question of direct anti-Bolshevism, for it the system was strictly punished. The most widespread among writers was a veiled rejection of collectivization, which inflicted irreparable damage on the way of the Russian village. One of these works was written by Vasily Shukshin ("Zarevoy rain"). The analysis of the story allows us to judge the author's personal position in relation to the fratricidal processes that took place in our country in the late 1920s and early 30s of the last century.

Fabula

The core of the story is the laconic dialogues of the two main characters: communist collectivist Efim Bedarev and former fist Cyril. They occur in space, divided by a window opening. This wall symbolizes the psychological barrier between the two heroes. Former enemies talk relatively peacefully, which is facilitated by two weighty circumstances: one of the disputants is seriously ill, and the second simply does not have aggressive intentions. The conversation deserves to be analyzed separately. Shukshin the glow of the rain, which began in the morning, also sees as a symbol of purification.

Occasionally, there are other characters, the doctor and the daughter of the patient of the district hospital, who came from the city. The conversation is laconic and sometimes indicated by separate words and phrases that are not understood by others. The story ends with the death of Yefim and the departure of Cyril, on whose head a rain from the heavens pours a warm glow. Shukshin deliberately refrains from commenting, leaving the reader to evaluate the events on his own.

Chronological analysis

The story was written in 1966. If we assume that events occur in it at about the same time, and there were no thirty peasants during the active dekulakization of the peasants, it can be assumed that both of them from sixty to sixty-five years old are such an age analysis. Shukshin "Zareva rain" wrote about the generation of peers of his parents, this is one of his favorite topics. The age of the doctor is defined as young "ridiculously". All right, after the end of the medina, the guy got a distribution to the district center, where he is gaining experience. He has to treat everyone in a row and from a variety of ills. Of these, just wonderful doctors are obtained. Even Bedarev has a daughter, Nina, little is known about her, but it is clear that she is very fond of her father and suffers from separation from him, this is clear from her reaction to the death of her parent. Nina is a woman of about the same age as VM Shukshin himself. "Zarevoy rain" indirectly touches on the relationship between fathers and children. They love each other in Russian, not for something, but simply because they are one blood. So it was then, and there is a hope that it will always be.

Talk without words

At the very beginning of the story "Zarevoy rain" Shukshin intrigues the reader with the sudden appearance of a mysterious character. In the window opened on the occasion of the spring there is a big head in a fur cap. The reaction of the patient followed quite active, he tried to get up, his eyes widened in surprise. The guest tried to calm Yefim, waved his hand, as if pointing out the inappropriateness of the manifestation of norms of politeness in such circumstances, and explained his visit with a desire to "try", and at the same time asked how things were going. The difference in the behavior of two long-familiar people demonstrates different degrees of their confidence, shows a simple psychological analysis. Shukshin "Zarevoy rain" wrote, being a mature man, 37 years - the age at which a man can evaluate the behavior of others by non-verbal signs. Cyril's eyes meanwhile are not clear where they are looking, maybe at Yefim, or maybe through him or completely by. This, and even the conversation through the windowsill, on which the guest reclines from time to time, attests to the bad attitude of the guest to the sick old man. He did not enter the ward.

Two worldviews

However much the postures and gestures of the interlocutors are eloquent, the essence of their conversation is most vividly expressed in words. It is quite clear, despite the brevity of the conversation, here is its summary. Shukshin "Zarevoy rain" created as a story about the clash of two worldviews, the personification of which became his characters. Cyril is a dekulak peasant, in the ruin of his fate Yefim, a rural activist, is guilty. Despite the words of the old Bolshevik that he is doing well, the interlocutor understands that things are very bad. It can not be said that this former kulak is upset, but he does not show gloating. On the contrary, he wants to have time to say something important in the end, and he seems to be afraid of being late. Even insulting word "crawled" Cyril ignores. He now does not take offense, he wants to understand his former enemy. The deceased peasant remembers events more than thirty years ago, asks questions, but he does not get a clear answer.

Yefim

Irreconcilability - that's what Shukshin wrote about "The Rain's Glow." Analysis of the story leads to the conclusion that both protagonists regret nothing. But if Cyril makes an attempt to understand Yefim's motivation, the old Bolshevik answers with ideological cliches, not wanting to think about the correctness of his actions even for a moment. His conscience, by his own admission, does not torment. He braves before the young doctor, although, of course, he fears the approaching death, considering it the end of everything, as a true atheist. He is afraid of the upcoming pain. But when the doctor tries to remove the interlocutor, obviously causing anxiety, the patient suddenly objects. Efim also needs to speak out. He strived, it turns out, to make fools less (hence, he considered himself smart). And he is also interested, at the expense of whom Cyril wanted to become rich.

Kirill

Deceased Cyril Shukshin Vasily Makarovich also does not idealize. This is an ordinary peasant, whose main dream was really wealth. Another question that he dreamed about his own banks, palaces and skyscrapers. He would have been quite satisfied with his house, some livestock, several acres of land and the freedom to process it. Cyril can not understand what for the sake of Yefim broke the church, ruined his life and other rural "rabbits" who earned wealth with hard work. Moreover, he could not even kill his enemy, although he had such an opportunity. It's a pity this "abnormal", which used to be called holy fools. He tries to understand the activist Yefim, but the one in response only calls him a fool. It also reaches the entire staff of the hospital ("oglode"). Evil feelings Cyril to his dying enemy is no longer experiencing.

Appearance of characters

It is not possible to judge the appearance of the protagonists reliably, neither the full text, nor, the more so, the short content. Shukshin "Rainy Rain" wrote, as the painters would say, with bold and large strokes. Yefim looks blackened, tired of the disease. For some reason, it seems thin and low, unlike Cyril, the owner of a large head and, apparently, proportional to her physique. A weak person would not survive in exile, and the dekulakized person was in it, he reminds the interlocutor of this.

On other characters, you can also say a little, after reading the story "Zareva rain." Shukshin Nina, daughter of Yefim, defines herself as a woman of about thirty, and the youth of the doctor has already been mentioned.

Symptoms and pains

If the author stops the reader's attention on some details, they touch the last minutes of the old Bolshevik's life. The suffocating attacks of a cough that shakes his dead body, the helpless pose of a man lying on his back and trying to climb, the fatal fire, eating the body from the inside, a hot mist, swinging ceiling and walls, all these signs of cancer are described extremely brightly by VM Shukshin. "Zarevoy rain", the story, in general, built schematically and not loaded with excessive detail, in the final part becomes very detailed. What did the author want to tell the reader? Perhaps, he stressed that the prophesy of Cyril came true in occasion of severe death as a manifestation of the highest justice in relation to the offenders of people. In God, both heroes of the story do not believe, but the former kulak knows that nothing is happening in the world, so it can not be called an absolute atheist.

Mysterious leaf

There is something in this work that Vasily Shukshin is very intriguing to the thoughtful reader, whose stories almost never contain anything unexplained. At the time of Efim's death, when a limp body is laid on the bed, three mysteriously coinciding events occur at once. Suddenly Cyril appears, or rather his voice, asking if he is ill. Then a scrap of paper flies through the window, and it is unclear whether he is thrown into the chamber deliberately, or carried by a gust of wind. And then the rain begins to dawn, Shukshin called the story in honor of this natural phenomenon. How are these events related? What and who wrote on this sheet? It can be assumed that this was the message that Cyril wanted to give to the longtime enemy, but he did not dare. The reader is given the right to answer these questions himself.

What a story

This is not a simple story, and not for the sake of pastime pastime lovers composed it Shukshin Vasily Makarovich. The stories of this great writer, who has become a modern classic, are always taught something, they have a moral core and a profound meaning. So what does the work tell about and what lesson does the reader present?

In fact, like any talented work, this story is multifaceted. He is primarily about the ability to forgive. After all, Cyril, walking away in the rain on the sloshing puddles and squeezing his cap in his hands, pitied his tormentor, even without knowing why.

And this story of love. The daughter falls to her knees in front of her father's body, from which, apparently, she knew little of her parental affection.

And in the work there is the idea of moral purification. The glow of the rain, like holy water, washes away all the filth, the malice that has accumulated over many years in Cyril's soul.

All this can be combined into three main Christian virtues, Faith, Hope and Love. This rain was indeed desirable.
