Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport is a modern air and transport junction of federal and international importance. It is located 10 km from the eponymous city in the Sakhalin region. The airport has been operating for more than 70 years. Which airlines are served here? How can passengers get to the terminal from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk?

History

Khomutovo Airport (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk) was founded in 1945 immediately after the region was liberated from Japanese troops after the war. An air squad was created. Already in October this year the airport started serving regular flights from Khabarovsk.

From 1946 until 1960, the airfield complex served air regiments No. 296 and No. 96, which were stationed here to carry out air defense missions.

In the 1950s, Soviet-made aircraft Il-14 entered the civil aviation squadron. It was these planes that later made flights to Kirovskoe, Okhu and Khabarovsk. Helicopters of the Mi type (1 and 4 modifications) were also transferred to the air squadron.

By 1964, the Khomutovsky airfield complex was put into operation, which is located on the site of a modern airport. Thanks to this, it became possible to receive and send such airliners as Il-18 and An-10.

Civil aircraft squad in the 1970s and until 1985 received, in addition, Mi helicopters (1, 2, 4 and 8 modifications) and airliners Il-14 and An-2 (24). By 1985, the airfield complex was completely ready for servicing the Tu-154.

In 1990 the airport began to serve international transport. And in 2013 it becomes an open joint stock company as a result of reorganization.
