Your brown eyes, even if you are used to counting them as green or blue

All people have brown eyes. It turns out that regardless of whether you think your eyes are green, blue or brown, the truth is that all these colors are different shades of the same color. Although, to be fair, it is worth noting, it depends on what you understand by the word "color".

Why do we all have brown eyes

Melanin, which consists of melanocyte cells, is a dark brown pigment. The eyeballs of all people contain this pigment, which means that, from a technical point of view, they are all somewhat brown.

The more this pigment is contained within the iris, the more visible light is absorbed, which means that the iris looks dark brown. If the amount of melanin is insignificant, less visible light is absorbed, and the iris acquires other shades. For the same reason, people with blue eyes have the lowest concentration of melanin. In fact, many children are born with blue eyes, because they have not yet developed enough melanin, and later the color changes.

Many can quite rightly note that it is a little pedantic because of this that all eyes are brown. In the end, a similar mechanism of color manipulation is used in the plumage of most birds.

How such mechanisms work in birds

Although feathers of some birds use pigments to acquire color, many birds are able to manipulate their appearance, changing the nanostructure of feathers. Changes in the size of these almost invisible holes lead to the dispersion of light waves of different lengths.

Small holes provide a blue effect, while large holes dissipate waves of longer length, resulting in a red color. So, with respect to birds, you will not say that they look like blue, although they are actually brown. Similarly, you will not tell a person about his beautiful green, but actually brown eyes.

So, although it's really true that we all have brown eyes, do not worry too much about what brown shade is really your eyes.
