Yaremcha (Carpathians): how to get there?

The resort is located in the intermountain hollow, in the valley of the Prut river. The nearest mountain range is the Gorgan. The administrative city is located within the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine, in its south-western part. From all sides, Yaremcha is surrounded by mountain ranges, the absolute height of which does not exceed 1500 meters.

In the city there is a railway station. Through Yaremche daily passenger trains run "Kiev - Rakhiv" and "Lviv - Rakhiv", as well as suburban trains (4 routes). You can get to the city in another way: first you need to get to Ivano-Frankivsk, and then take a bus to Vorokhta, Rakhova.

History of the resort

The city was founded in 1787. The development of Yaremche as a resort begins at the end of the XIX century. In 1890, several dozens of expensive villas were built here, owned by representatives of the Austrian elite. At the same time, the first tourist club "Yaremchanskiy" appeared in the city, which was engaged in marking mountain trails, improving the territory and popularizing Yaremche's sights.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, about 1,500 people took vacations in this area annually. In 1907 the first guide to Yaremche was issued. To attract tourists in the city regularly arranged concerts, festivals, lotteries and humorous evenings. In the interwar period, the first sanatoriums appeared in Yaremche.

Since the beginning of the 1950s, the city is actively developing as a Soviet resort. Thousands of tourists from different parts of the USSR came to Yaremche every year to become healthier, get acquainted with Hutsul culture and see with their own eyes the Carpathian Mountains, which are "self-sufficient and perfect" (by the definition of Ukrainian writer Taras Prokhasko).

Souvenir market in Yaremche

In Yaremche there is the largest souvenir market in the whole of Carpathian Ukraine. This is not just a bazaar, but also one of the main enterprises of the city's economy.

The market is located in the center of the resort. Several hundred sellers offer tourists to buy souvenirs, products, as well as works of art made by local craftsmen. Here you can buy beautiful wood products, earthenware, landscape paintings, warm sheepskin blankets and much more. Souvenir market in Yaremche is also a museum with thousands of different exhibits, on which you can walk for hours.

Waterfall "Breakout"

Perhaps the most popular attraction of the city is the waterfall "Breakout". This waterfall is a cascade type, located on the Prut River, in the center of Yaremche. The water here falls from a 7-meter height with a huge noise.

The waterfall is very picturesque, along the shores on the surface of the gray Yamnenskie sandstone. Admire this natural monument can be from the 20-meter bridge, which is built directly above the cascades.

Masterpieces of wooden architecture

At least a dozen monuments of wooden (Hutsul) architecture have been preserved in Yaremche. The most famous among them is the restaurant "Hutsulshchina". The elegant wooden building was built in 1952 without a single nail.

In addition, the city has preserved six wooden churches dating from the XVIII-XIX century. Among them - the oldest temple of John the Merciful in 1663. It was built in Yamna (historical district of Yaremche) in the best traditions of Hutsul architecture. In the interiors of the ancient church - a lot of icons and embroideries. Near the temple it is also interesting to inspect the old cemetery with ancient tombstones.

Thus, Yaremcha is not only an excellent mountain resort, but also a city with a rich history and numerous monuments of culture and architecture.
