Injector or carburetor? What's better?
Injector or carburetor? What's better? This question was asked by almost every driver. In this article we will tell you how the injector works, what disadvantages and advantages it has and how it differs from the carburetor. Is it true that the use of low-quality gasoline quickly leads to the failure of the engine with the injection system?
Which is better?
Previously, car enthusiasts did not think about what is better - an injector or carburetor. The first engines with the injection system appeared even earlier than the simplest carburettors. But for a long time they were not used because of the high complexity of the design. In the 1960s, it became necessary to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases as much as possible , which resulted in the introduction of fuel injection systems into serial cars. At first these were simple mechanical systems. In them, the amount of injected gasoline directly depended on how much the throttle was opened . But with the gradual development of electrical engineering, mechanical systems were superseded by electronic ones. Now they are equipped with the majority of foreign cars, operated in our country.
What are the injection systems
Injector or carburetor? First we'll find out what kind of injection systems are there. Depending on the place of fuel supply and the number of injectors, the injection system can be of three types: multi-point, single-point and direct. The single-point system assumes the presence of a single injector, which is in place of the carburetor. In the multi-point system, each cylinder of the ICE has its own nozzle, which supplies fuel to the collector near the intake valves. And in the newest systems, the injector supplies fuel, like diesel engines, directly to the cylinders.
Injection systems have a number of advantages: reduction of toxicity of exhausts (due to exact dosage of gasoline), increase of economy, improvement of high-speed characteristics of the car. Moreover, a properly working motor with injection system has better starting properties, which do not depend on temperature. He also works more reliably and steadily. So what to choose - injector or carburetor?
Are there any drawbacks to the injector?
There are injectors and drawbacks. Firstly, these are high requirements for the composition and quality of gasoline, the expensive price of spare parts and maintenance. Therefore, if there is a need to replace the injection system, many motorists remember a carburetor with a kind word.
Secondly, the resource of the injected ICE largely depends on the quality of the gasoline used. Now the fuel, sold at some Russian gas stations, contains a variety of mechanical impurities, chemical compounds, resins, which can significantly shorten the life of the engine. To increase its service life, it is necessary to systematically flush the injectors - approximately every 23,000 kilometers. Otherwise they can become so crooked that no washing will help.
