Work as a waiter - a temporary earnings or a profession?

There are vacancies in the personnel market, the demand for which is always present. This is primarily low-paid job specialties and waiters. Work as a waiter is a simple matter, in most cases not requiring special education or even work experience. But, as a rule, they do not work for long. A waiter with more than five years of work experience is a rarity. This is the case when you need to talk not about work as a waiter, but about a profession as a waiter. What is the difference between these concepts?

First, the profession of a waiter suggests that a person who studies it, is ready to associate his activities with it for a long time, is ready to develop and reach new heights. Yes, strangely enough, in this profession there is much to grow. Elite restaurants and hotel complexes, where the work of a waiter "shines" only to the elite, can earn very decent money only for tips left by spoiled, but very rich visitors.

Secondly, they master this profession, and not just work as waiters, those who intend to build their careers in the restaurant business, where the waiter, after the cleaner, is the lowest step. Work as a waiter allows you to quickly learn all the subtleties of the restaurant business from the inside and gain experience, which will be simply necessary for the position of administrator or even restaurant director.

But this work is most often given to people who, due to lack of education or experience, can not count on something more decent yet. Usually they consider such work as temporary, allowing to maintain their financial position before the device to a permanent place. There are a lot of students among them who do not want to get an education and ensure the constant availability of money.

But even if a person does not consider his work as a profession, he will have to seriously study how to work as a waiter. To do this, you can finish special courses or school waiters, but you can learn from your own experience under the guidance of more experienced colleagues - experts in this field.

The main task of the waiter is to promptly and courteously serve the visitors: acquaint them with the menu, accept and bring the order, calculate the customers and clean the table. It would seem that nothing complicated in this. It is difficult to comply with all the rules of etiquette. The waiter must know who to serve first - a woman, a man or a child. Serving the table with an experienced waiter takes a few minutes, he always knows where to put a knife for fish, and where there should be a plate for pies.

The most important quality of the waiter after the quickness is courtesy. He must remember that he is in the restaurant in order to serve and even wait. And I must do it with visible pleasure, that is, constantly smiling. A person who does not know how to smile sincerely at people, serving them, should understand that he is not categorically suited by a waiter. Reviews in the form of a tip, which constitute the lion's share of earnings, such an employee will not be pleased.
