Work as a flight attendant. Duties of the stewardess. How much does the stewardess earn?

In principle, such a profession as a stewardess does not exist. The correct name for it is the flight attendant. What other secrets hides this kind of activity, who can qualify for the vacancy, and what requirements are put forward by the airlines, now we will try to understand.

Requirements for future flight attendants

In the profession of the stewardess there are certain subtleties - requirements for applicants. The basic qualities of the flight attendant should include:

  • Foreign language skills;
  • Sociability, ability to communicate with people;
  • diplomacy;
  • tolerance;
  • adequacy;
  • Ingenuity and resourcefulness (the ability to find a quick and reasonable way out of different situations).

All the skills of applicants and the availability of certain qualities are checked by a specially created commission.

The appearance of the future stewardess also matters - she should always look well-groomed and neat. The flight attendant's weight should be normal (in the literal sense of the word), and the flight attendant's growth is sufficient to get luggage for low-growth passengers (children, elderly people) if necessary.

How to become a stewardess

You can fill up the stewardess ranks in two ways.

The first step on the way to the sky includes such stages:

  1. Interviewing. Getting a positive result and approving your candidacy by the leadership of a specific airline.
  2. Training. A company in need of a flight attendant sends an approved candidate for training - special stewardess courses. Training takes place in a group of 15-20 people. The duration of the process takes no more than 2-3 months. The school day starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. The training courses include theoretical and practical parts.
  3. Practice. Flight as an intern. At the end of the internship, a special exam is given (flight with an instructor) and a pre-admission for independent flights is issued.
  4. Obtaining full admission - passing another check with the instructor.
  5. Passage of the medical-flight expert commission.
  6. Employment in the airline.

The second method contains the following actions:

  1. Courses of flight attendants. The duration of the training is about 2 months. He pays for courses wishing to become a cabin attendant, not an airline, as in the previous version. Training includes only theory, no practical classes are not provided in principle. Lessons are held in the evening time every day.
  2. Passage of medical commission.
  3. Job search.

Everyone can study for the stewardess, but not everyone will find employment. This is the main drawback of the second method. Yes, and practical skills, even the most basic, independent training is not provided.

Interview: what to prepare for

At the interview questions can be asked the most unexpected and unpredictable. May ask about the size of clothes, registration, hobbies. There are even discouraging questions: do you consider yourself so beautiful to work here? How will you react if the passenger confesses to you in love or looks at a fool? What do you do if you accidentally pour juice on a male passenger and get to the most intimate place?

You will be informed that the work of the flight attendant implies an irregular working day and can provoke a number of occupational diseases (varicosity, chronic fatigue), warn of possible abnormal situations on board (fights, threats, etc.).

Work in the sky: advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of a stewardess profession include:

  • The ability to combine work and rest as efficiently as possible thanks to a flexible work schedule;
  • Free travel, visits to various countries of the world;
  • Acquaintance with interesting people, representatives of different nationalities and statuses;
  • The work of the flight attendant essentially expands and changes the worldview;
  • The availability of a service ticket - allows you to pay the cost of a flight as a passenger only 10% of the total ticket price, and once a year and at all the flight is paid by the airline;
  • The possibility of additional income from the sale of goods Duty Free (while the cost of goods is the same as in airports, and the flight attendant gets a certain percentage of sales);
  • Getting a "tip" for providing additional services (transfer of a passenger from economy class to business class, sale of alcoholic beverages, permission to smoke in the kitchen, etc.).

As for the costs of the profession, they are much smaller, but they are palpable. So, the main drawback of the flight attendant's work is excessive stress on human health. During take-offs and landings, the pressure is highly variable. Also, the health of the fair sex is reflected in walking in shoes with high heels - this leads to a disease like varicose veins.

Duties of flight attendants

The main duty of the stewardess is high-quality services for passengers who are on board the aircraft. At the same time flight attendants should monitor the compliance of these passengers with safety regulations, they are responsible for the safety of people throughout the flight, and in the event of an emergency, they must provide first aid.

The boardwriter is the first person who opens and closes the airplane doors, meets passengers, checks out boarding passes and worries about the safety of luggage. Beforehand, the flight attendant must check the availability and completeness of the first-aid kit, the serviceability of fire extinguishers, the oxygen cylinder and other emergency equipment, and make sure that food, drinks, blankets, etc. are present on board in the required quantity.

The stewardess explains to passengers how to behave in the event of an emergency, what emergency equipment to use, and how to do it. During the flight the flight attendant offers passengers various drinks and food products, sells printed publications (newspapers, magazines).
