Who is entitled to compensation for deposits in 1991?

Today, depositors carefully choose the bank before checking their reliability, paying attention to more favorable offers and conditions. A couple of decades ago, this choice was not granted and all citizens who had free money, trusted their money to Sberbank. For years people have been saving money for different needs, someone wanted to raise money to not refuse anything in old age, someone opened an account in the name of children or grandchildren, some wanted to save up for a house or a car. Whatever it was, but in 1991, all hopes collapsed in an instant. The accumulated decades of money depreciated hundreds of times.

It would be dishonest on the part of the state to leave its people to the mercy of fate, so already in 1996, compensation was made for deposits. True, information about this was in no hurry to disclose, so few knew about payments, and even depositors born before 1916 could count on the money. Now the rules have changed, and compensation for deposits is available to all citizens born before 1991.

Taking into account inflation, the government has developed the following scheme of payments. Depending on the age of the depositor, Soviet deposits will be multiplied by two or three times. So, for those who were born before 1945, there is a three-fold compensation for deposits in 1991, those born in the period from 1946 to 1991 will receive compensation in double size.

Even if the payment has already been made, the depositor has the right to request recalculation. The initial contribution will be multiplied by two or three. From this amount, it is necessary to deduct the compensation already received, and the balance will be given to the applicant. All this works, if the contribution is valid, if it was closed, the sum is multiplied by the lowering coefficients. The magnitude of the coefficient depends on when the deposit was closed, the later it is done, the higher its value. In case of closing the deposit in 1991, compensation for deposits is not payable.

Today, compensation for deposits is provided for their owners, as well as heirs. In the first case, you need to contact the Sberbank office, with a savings book and passport. If the book is lost, you need to write a statement in the bank. If the depositor has died, the compensation for the deposits is due to his heir. In this case it is necessary to have a savings book, a passport, a document confirming the Russian citizenship of the depositor and a certificate of inheritance.

In addition to Russia, compensation for deposits occurs in other countries, formerly the republics of the USSR. Lithuania was the fastest-responding country. About 80% of the proceeds from privatization went to payments of lost money. In Kazakhstan, this problem was solved by issuing bonds. They will be completely repaid for pensioners in 5 or 10 years, and for able-bodied citizens - 15 - 20 years. Armenia plans to fully compensate losses of depositors until 2015. First of all, payments are made to the needy and pensioners. Azerbaijan promised to solve the problem for 10 years. The possibilities of compensation are also being considered in Belarus and Moldova, but there are practically no payments due to lack of money.
