Emomali Rahmon. President of Tajikistan. Emomali Rahmon and his family

A difficult figure is Emomali Rahmon, a Tajik politician, and the attitude of compatriots and foreign colleagues to him is very ambiguous. The share of this talented organizer was a lot of upheavals and mutinies. His reforms and reforms, even for his countrymen, sometimes seem rather strange and ineffective. Critics in his address recently sounds very much. In order to better understand what is driving this figure, you need to turn to his roots, the family, by the time the future president of Tajikistan has just taken the first steps in the political arena.

A family

What do we know about the native Emomali? The future president was born on October 5, 1952 in a large family. He became the third child. At this time the Emomali family lived in the Kulyab region, in the village of Dangara, in the Tajik SSR. The boy was very proud of his father and elder brother. Sharif Rakhmonov, Emomali's father, was a participant in the Great Patriotic War. He was awarded the Order of Glory 2nd and 3rd degrees. Unfortunately, the brother of the future Tajik president Faiziddin Rakhmonov died during the execution of his duty in late 1950 in the Lviv region, in Ukraine. Mother politics, Mayram Sharifova, died at the age of 94 in 2004. This became a great loss for our hero.

early years

Our hero grew up and soon went to high school, which he graduated with success. There was not enough money in the family. The young man did not have the opportunity to study further at that time. After graduation, Emomali Rakhmon went to work for a butter factory in Kurgan-Tube, an electrician. After that, he served for three years, from 1971 to 1974, in the Pacific Fleet. Then Emomali returned to the factory to his specialty. The young man was very single-minded. He entered the Tajik State University in correspondence department and successfully graduated from it later. Money was not enough. He took on any job, even having to work even as a salesman. From 1976 to 1988, Emomali worked first as secretary of the board on the collective farm in the Kulyab region, then - the chairman of the trade union committee here, then in party organizations. Soon the purposeful young man becomes already the director of the state farm in Dangara district of the same region. In 1992, Emomali was elected to the post of deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Tajik SSR.

Children

What does the president dream about at leisure? About that at its children and grandsons all has folded happily. And he, for his part, will do everything for this. Since childhood, our hero dreamed that he will have a very large family. All was fulfilled. He has nine children: two sons (Somon and Rustam) and seven daughters (Firuz, Rukhshon, Ozoda, Takhmin, Zarrin, Parvin and Farzon). Let's try to trace the fate of some of them:

• Emomali Rahmon's eldest daughter, Firuza, became the wife of Amonullo Khukumov, the head of the Tajik railway.

• Rustam's son, born in 1987, graduated from the Tajik National University, was a student at MGIMO courses. In his career everything was developing as well as possible, probably not without the help of an influential father. At first he headed the Business Support Office in the State Committee, then worked as the head of the Department for Combating Smuggling. A little later he became president of the Football Federation of Tajikistan (he once played football for the club "Istiqlol"). In 2009, Rustam married a daughter of an influential manager of a large food production in the city of Dushanbe. This wedding was held with great scope. Emomali Rahmon did not regret this money. It was officially announced that the celebration was held within the framework of the presidential bill "On the Ordering of Celebrations, Traditions and Rites." In fact, it turned out that the rules were violated. The film from the video of the wedding fell into the hands of the oppositionists, who hastened to publish it, providing relevant, discrediting Emomali with comments.

• A second daughter named Ozoda. She also received a good education. She graduated from the Tajik National University, receiving a law degree. Then she studied at the University of Maryland and the University of Georgetown, which is in Washington. After that Ozoda worked for some time in the Tajik embassy in the USA. In 2009 she was appointed deputy foreign minister of her native state. It is easy to guess, by whose patronage, she quickly and rapidly makes a career. Her husband was Jamoliddin Nuraliyev, Deputy Minister of Finance of Tajikistan.

• Another daughter of the president, Parvin, married Ashraf Gulov, the son of the Chairman of the State Committee for State Property Management. Her second choice was Sherali Gulov, Minister of Energy and Industry.

• Daughter Zarina works as a speaker on one of the main television channels in Tajikistan. Her husband was Siyovush Zukhurov, the son of the chief of communications service, the champion of international boxing competitions.

Civil war in Tajikistan

How did Emomali Rahmon come to power? A significant role in this was played by the civil war that unfolded in the state after the collapse of the USSR. After Tajikistan gained independence, Rakhmon Nabiyev became its head . However, the opposition in the face of Islam, inspired by the fall of the former regime, strengthened and made an attempt to overthrow it. Under the pressure of these forces Nabiyev was forced to withdraw from the political arena.

The power in Tajikistan passed into the hands of the opposition. Only the groups led by Sangak Safarov and Fayzali Saidov could oppose it. Here the story of Emomali begins. Rakhmonov joined the unification of Safarov. The unrest in the country resulted in civil war. In 1992, Emomali became chairman of the Kulyab regional executive committee, and then chairman of the Supreme Council. The so-called "kulyabs" became the dominant force in Tajikistan. They were supported by Russia and Uzbekistan, which were against possible Islamization within the country. On November 6, 1994, the country held presidential elections and a referendum on a new constitution. As a result of the voting, Emomali Rakhmonov won a crushing victory for the opponents. The opposition said that the newly-minted president of Tajikistan falsified the election results. Soon after that, Mahmud Khudoiberdyev, commander of the 1st Motorized Rifle Brigade, rebelled in the city of Kurgan-Tube, and then in Tursunzade. He demanded the resignation of many high-ranking officials of the country. Emomali had to yield a little to the rebels and remove some of the top leaders from the posts.

Fighting Opposition

Emomali Rahmon makes permutations in power. But the riots do not end there. There are many dissatisfied with the new president of Tajikistan. He is assassinated several times. The first occurred on April 30, 1997 in the city of Khujand. The unknown threw a grenade into the motorcade of the president. In the same year, a revolt was raised in the city, spreading beyond its borders. Emomali suppressed him, and then began to get rid of his opponents. How? By arrests. Many oppositionists were detained even outside of Tajikistan, extraditing to their homeland. There they were waited for by prison and long-term periods. On November 8, 2001, the second attempt was made against the president. In none of them did the politician suffer.

Strengthening in power

In 2003, a referendum was held in Tajikistan, following which the Constitution was to be amended. The main amendment to the law concerned the president's tenure at his post. Previously, it was 4 years. Now the president of Tajikistan had the right to lead the country for 7 years. Voters mostly supported Emomali, which enabled him to rule the state for another 14 years (2 terms) since 2006. Also, the Constitution of the country was amended regarding the age of the president. Restrictions on this issue were lifted.

The search for ways out of the crisis and the optimization of state expenditures

Even before the Soviet Union collapsed, Tajikistan was considered one of the poorest republics. Civil war, which began in the country immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union, caused her enormous damage, which is estimated by economists at $ 7 billion. It claimed 60-150 thousand lives. And to this day the main problem of the state is the insecurity of citizens. According to the World Bank, in 1999, up to 83% of Tajik citizens were below the poverty line. In order to overcome this problem, in 2002 the Government developed and approved the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper. As a result of its implementation, the indicator of the material well-being of the population has grown significantly. The President of Tajikistan has been followed by other steps taken to reduce poverty in the country. So, Emomali Rahmon relied on the state's hydropower resources, finishing the construction of the largest hydroelectric power station in Central Asia - Rogun. The project was also attended by Russia and Uzbekistan. However, these measures had no effect on the economy of the country. But this negatively affected the relations with the project participants. The economy of Tajikistan to this day is very much dependent on the funds earned by citizens outside the country.

Controversial transformations in the way of life of fellow citizens

The President of Tajikistan, trying to lead the country out of a difficult economic crisis, has made several transformations, which can hardly be called effective and effective. Even in his fellow citizens, they cause bewilderment. So, when visiting one of the schools in 2006, the politician noticed a crown of gold from one of the teachers. After that, all citizens of the state were told to get rid of such "luxury". Moreover, the leader of the country has forbidden carrying out of magnificent solemn ceremonies and holidays with a view of saving of accumulations of compatriots. The schools no longer held the last calls and holidays of the bilingual. It was also forbidden to spend a lavish wedding and funeral. Bachelor parties, hen parties, bridesmaids were also canceled. Anyone who dares to break the law, was supposed to pay a fine. It is worth acknowledging that all these innovations were not required to be carried out by Emomali Rahmon's family. The photo of the magnificent wedding of President Rustam's son was on the front pages of all local newspapers. The leader of the country also had other transformations concerning the way of life of his fellow citizens. So, in 2007 he ordered to issue a decree on changing Tajik names. He also changed his own. Now it was not Rakhmonov, but Rakhmon. Registry offices were forbidden to register children whose names ended with "-y" and "-ev."

Relations with Islam Karimov

With what the hostilities between the two presidents began, it is now difficult to restore. It seems that Emomali Rahmon and Isla Karimov dislike each other for a long time. Some journalists claim that the Tajik president at a meeting dedicated to the negotiations on the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station spoke out sharply to his Uzbek colleague. According to Rakhmon himself, he not only argued and swore with Karimov, but even fought several times.

Criticism of the President

"Emomali Rahmon and his family are involved in corruption" - these words in Tajikistan were not repeated, perhaps, only lazy. If we trace how the president's relatives receive high rank and rank, there is no doubt in this statement. Moreover, the fact that the leader of this country is involved in large-scale corruption is also indicated by the leakage of diplomatic telegrams from Wikileaks. So, in one of the documents from 2010 from the American Embassy in Tajikistan it is said that the president's relatives headed by him are running a big business, defending their personal interests to the detriment of the country's economy. Most of the company's income settles in hidden offshore firms, bypassing the state treasury.

Awards

The President of Tajikistan has many orders, medals and titles. Among them:

• Cavalier of the Great Cross of the Order of Three Stars.

• Order of Merit І st.

• Order "Hero of the Republic of Tajikistan".

• The Ruby Star "Peacemaker".

• Peace Prize of the United Nations.

This is only a small list of awards, which has Emomali Rahmon. The year 2014 became difficult for him. He seeks to strengthen relations with his foreign counterparts. Regular meetings and discussions with V.Putin, A.Lukashenko and other leaders of foreign countries are held.

The Tajik president is a very difficult controversial figure in the world political arena. This is evidenced by his biography. Emomali Rahmon is an outstanding leader, despite various rumors about his reign. And it's hard not to agree with this.
