When a child begins to talk: theory and practice

Mom is often very worried about the situation when a neighbor's baby, the same age as his own child, already uttered the first words with great force, and no sound is heard from his child. The situation is also aggravated by doctors who for some reason have fallen in love with the diagnosis of "delay in speech development" to everyone who is at least a little below the norms adopted in Soviet times.

In fact, all babies grow and learn differently, and if there are no obvious health problems, worry about that something is wrong with the child, it is not worth it. Some children begin to walk early, others speak, others learn some more skills. It is better to direct your efforts to help the baby say his first words, and then offer. But first things first.

When does the child start talking? Official version

If you believe the already mentioned standards, then at one-year-old age the kid must have an active vocabulary consisting of at least five words. By one and a half, his passive speech, that is, understanding what adults are talking about, increases noticeably. In two years the child should be able to build the simplest proposals. At a minimum, they should consist of two words. Well, in two and a half children just have to read the poems by heart.

By the age of three, the baby must be able to bow down the nouns and conjugate the verbs. In four and a half or five he should have problems with the pronunciation of the sounds "p", "l".

Meanwhile, many experts note that recently these age norms are shifting, and not in the direction of an earlier beginning of speech, but on the contrary. There are many reasons for this.

When does the child start talking? Factors affecting the formation of speech

In many ways, when the child utters the first words, depends on the other family members with whom he lives in the same house, especially from his mother. So, live communication, frequent reference to the baby, singing of songs contribute to the acceleration of speech development.

A significant influence on the moment when the child begins to talk, is provided by his older brothers and sisters. Often younger children in the family outstrip the development of elders, and this concerns not only the long-awaited first word. It's all about the extra motivation that appears in this case, because the kid has someone to equal.

Sometimes parents, without knowing it, themselves postpone the long-awaited moment when with the beloved child it will be possible to conduct a dialogue. This happens in the event that all the requests of the child, coming in any form (stomping with a foot, gesture or half-word), are carried out immediately. The baby in this case simply does not have the incentive to learn to speak correctly. Parents in this case should abandon this method of communication. The second example is when the relatives, believing that the child is still very small, communicate with him in the "children's language", even when his age is approaching a three-year mark. The words "bibika", "kak", "ava" and other similar ones should forever leave the adult vocabulary, the child will barely be a year and a half old.

Another factor that influences when a child begins to talk is his socialization. Today, there are many opponents of kindergartens, who believe that before the school child can learn more at home. But even daily lessons will not replace him with live communication with peers. A lot of parents admit that their two-year-old kid, who had difficulty tying up two words, went to the kindergarten and began to speak much more and more correctly.

When a child begins to talk: hereditary characteristics

All children are individual. And for proofs, you do not need to go far. If you pay attention to peers swarming in the playground, you can see that some do not get out of the sandbox, others can not be dragged off the swing, and still others just rush headlong all the way.

It's the same with speech. If one of the parents before the age of three was uncommunicative and taciturn, the baby can have the same developmental features. Of course, this situation is not absolutely necessary, but it is possible and understandable.

The child does not say well: how to improve the situation

If the child lags behind the norms in the development of speech, the first thing to be excluded is the possible health problems. To begin with, you can simply watch the baby: does he listen to the speech of adults and understands it. Well, the second step is consulting a specialist.

If there are no obvious reasons, you should devote more time to your child: read poetry, for example Agniya Barto, attend general development activities for toddlers, play finger games and talk to him, not forcing him to say new words, but provoking a desire to do it. And then he will certainly please you with his speech.
