What substances do not have taste? Biology, Grade 8

In this paper, we suggest that you discuss the question of what substances do not have taste. In fact, there are a lot of such substances on our planet. We will consider the most common that we encounter in everyday life.

So, what substances do not have taste? Surely everyone tried a chewing gum. When you come to the store, your eyes run away from such a choice. But in fact, chewing gum has neither taste nor smell. You will find out about this if you read the article to the end. Or take the most common substance of our planet - water. If you drink clean water, which is hard enough to get even in the laboratory, then you will not feel any foreign odors. Right now, let's talk a little more about the H 2 O molecule

Water

The first answer to the question of what substances do not have taste, we decided to allocate water. Why? It's simple, water is the source of life on our planet. It has many properties that enable us to live. As a result of various processes, water is polluted, so why do we never need fresh and pure water for drinking? Water - is an inexhaustible source, and fresh we get as a result of the cycle of substances in nature. But this applies a little to another topic.

Now let us pass directly to the question of the article. What substances do not have taste? Biology, which is taught in the school course, must necessarily contain this topic. So why do not we taste neither taste nor smell when we drink water? Let's remember why and how we smell, tastes? This becomes possible as a result of the functioning of special nerve endings, they are called "receptors." They are able to react to stimuli. So nerve impulses are transmitted to the brain, only then do we understand what smells like or what color we have before us.

Each receptor reacts to one specific stimulus. If we do not smell water, then in our body there is no such receptor on which water would have the effect of an irritant. Of course, we do not talk about river water (its smell we feel from afar), about the one that comes from our tap (it has both color and a specific smell). The smell, color and taste of the water are imparted by the impurities contained in it.

Metals

In the question of that. What substances do not have taste, we decided to isolate some metals. Surely every house has items made from:

  • Silver;
  • Gold;
  • Platinum;
  • gland;
  • Semiprecious stones;
  • precious stones.

If you find at least one of the components in your home, try it on taste or try to catch a smell. From this experience, we found out that these things do not smell and taste. Also in this group can be attributed a lot of minerals.

But everyone knows the so-called metallic smell. Agree, now it strongly contradicts everything that was said above. Remember, metals do not have a smell, and the metallic smell we get as a result of the interaction of human skin with metal.

Scientists managed to prove that the metallic smell is actually the smell of human sweat. Many feel such an unpleasant and pungent smell if they admire old coins. As a rule, they are made of the following metals:

  • copper;
  • brass;
  • iron.

After studying the reactions that occur during the contact of these coins with the human body, it turned out that this "fragrance" is the result of the interaction of the acid with phosphorus and carbon. This is the result of studying by chromatography. As a result of the interaction of the above substances, the following are formed:

  • Aldehydes;
  • Ketones.

It is these substances that have such an unpleasant smell.

Chewing gum

The question that is examined in our work (which substances do not have taste), the biology of grade 8 is studying. It is at this point that an acquaintance with the human body occurs, including children learn what receptors are. We already mentioned earlier that chewing gum also has no taste and smell. But we used to eat its flavors and incredibly diverse tastes. Here everything happens according to the same pattern as we disassembled with water. Chewing gum, in its original form, can not have a smell, it is added specifically.

Remember what happens if you chew it for too long. Of course, the taste completely disappears, it becomes "rubber". This is due to the fact that all the additives volatilize. In itself chewing gum is a mixture of elastic compounds, and the taste is given to food additives.

Potato starch

So, which substances do not have taste? In this category, we can refer to starch. We decided to write about the most common of its types. About potato and rice.

Future housewives need to remember that starch is odorless and tasteless, as in shops we often face fakes. For example, instead of starch, yams with various impurities can give. It is impossible to distinguish them from outside, pay attention to the fact that starch has no smell and taste, while flour will have a rather unpleasant aroma, and the taste of the dish will be unpleasant.

Rice starch

If you compare potato and rice starch, the second will be much smaller. Remember that starch should not have a taste, a slight odor is allowed. However, it should not have a musty, sour or rotten flavor. Be careful, there are often counterfeits in shops that can spoil any dish.
