Blue whale

In the world there are many beautiful and truly amazing animals. They can be safely attributed to the blue whale (it is also called blue). A lot of legends have been written about him. Yes, he is really very unusual.

What kind of animal is that

A whale is a mammal, but a mammal is unique, unlike the rest. Scientists have proven that their ancestors long ago led a terrestrial lifestyle. By the way, they had a wool, a tail, and also paws. Today it is hard to believe in it, but the fact remains. The newest studies have proved that the closest relative of the blue whale (and any other whale in general) are artiodactyls.

The blue whale has incredible dimensions. In them he surpasses all in the world. Yes, it really is the biggest whale in the world. There is no other living being more than him. The blue whale in length is thirty-three meters (maximum). Its weight can be equal to one hundred and fifty tons.

The body of the blue whale is elongated. All of it is covered with a smooth skin, which is very even. There is practically no wool. Color - gray-blue. There are dark spots. They are the reason that the blue whale from afar seems marble. Note that this animal seems blue only when it is looked at through the water.

The blue whale is majestic and unhurried. His heart is shortened to twenty times a minute. The speed of the whale can develop a rather large - up to forty-eight kilometers per hour.

The oval part is approximately 27 percent of the whole body. The weight of the heart is up to eight tons, the lung volume can reach three thousand liters, the blood in it is about eight tons. The fountain, which creates a blue whale, releasing air, can reach ten meters in height. Due to their large size, blue whales are not kept in aquariums.

By themselves, these whales live in the oceans. The cold waters of the Southern Hemisphere are the homeland of the largest specimens. Note that the warmer the water, the smaller the size of the blue whales that live in it. The waters of Sri Lanka are one of the most suitable places for watching blue whales. Annually thousands of tourists come to these areas only to look at the largest animals of the globe.

In summer the blue whale lives in cold waters, but closer to winter it moves to where it's warmer. He does this in order to save the lives of his young, the subcutaneous layer of which has not yet formed and has not become able to protect them from the severe cold.

The female of the blue whale gives birth to twice a year. Pregnancy is intrauterine. The fruit ripens for eleven months. The baby in length reaches from six to nine meters, and can weigh up to three tons. The twin appears in one case out of a hundred.

The calf becomes able to move independently from the first seconds of life. Feeding milk the mother produces for the next seven months. Kitenok can drink up to forty liters of milk per day.

For seven months, the cub will grow considerably - its length will reach about sixteen meters. The transition to adult nutrition will be carried out gradually. The food of the blue whale is plankton. He traces it with the help of special antennae, which are located on the upper jaw in the usual place of the teeth. Sexual maturity will come in fifteen years. A blue whale can survive until the ninety years of age.

These animals are monogamous. The male takes a direct part in caring for the baby and protects it from dangers in all possible ways.

Blue whales live in large clusters only in places where there is a lot of food. Their number can reach sixty individuals. Their communication takes place through special sound waves. They can hear each other from an incredibly long distance.
