What is the meter?

It would seem that it can be simpler than the units of measures that each person encounters literally from the diaper. Meter, kilogram, liter ... However, sometimes life poses new questions even before the real "gurus." One such example is what is the meter per meter. Indeed, in school in geometry lessons in such units, no values are measured. So, perhaps, they do not exist at all, and the running meters themselves are the purest fiction? Now, when the Internet is available to everyone, it is theoretically possible to easily find the answer to almost any question posed. The main thing is to formulate it correctly. An inquisitive user who typed in the search bar of the browser the query "what is a running meter", probably surprised by the fact that these words are adjacent to the kitchen theme. What does this mean?

Perhaps, all the same, it is necessary to understand in detail the question of what a running meter is. Obviously, since we are talking about units of measurements, then the answer would have to be sought in France, at the Bureau of Weights and Measures, where all the reference samples of the SI system are stored . But if we could look at the stands, then they did not find any mythical meter. This indicates that to the present meter the desired measure of length has only an indirect relationship.

Initially, as a standard, one ten-millionth part of the duration of the earth's meridian intersecting with Paris was taken. The necessary measurements were carried out in 1795, and after making corrective additions, in 1799, based on the data obtained, a ruler made of noble platinum of the correct size was made. However, later the accuracy of such a meter was increasingly questioned, since the shape of the planet is far from the ideal ball, and in classical geodesy it is practically impossible to obtain such unprecedented accuracy without a satellite metric. If at the time of the creation of the original "standard" its accuracy was quite sufficient for all the tasks of that time, then every year the situation changed. As a result, in 1960 it was proposed to use as a meter a certain part of the wavelength of the atomic transition in krypton. And only 23 years later the standard adopted its modern interpretation, tied to the length of the path of the light beam in a vacuum.

What is the meter?

This concept is used, first of all, when selling roll materials. Thanks to him, it is possible to considerably simplify the calculations. For example, a person needs to buy 10 square meters of linoleum. In trade outlets this material is realized in rolls, the width of which is constant for each model. Thus, to get the required 10 square meters. M for a roll width of 2 m, you need to measure only 5 m. Since 2 m * 5 m = 10 square meters. Here these 5 - and there are running meters. In other words, the running meter is equal to the reference value, but taking into account any additional unchanged value (in this case, the width).

However, this definition requires some explanation, since the often encountered expression "running meter of the kitchen" is not always clear. After all, by analogy, when buying a kitchen set, you can theoretically ask you to remove a number of cabinets from the roll. Confusion arises due to the fact that sellers of such furniture products previously mentioned invariable value consider not the width, but the cost of material and labor. If the price of a meter is known, and each subsequent one differs only in the spatial configuration (while maintaining the same amount of materials), then it is much easier to use the notion of a running meter in the rough calculations. A buyer who is interested in the cost of "the same kitchen model, but of a greater or lesser length," can easily calculate it even on his own.
