What is the mantle? Meanings of the word

The article tells about what a mantle is, what values this word has, in particular, it speaks of a planetary mantle.

Manifold

In any living language spoken by people, if it develops, over time, under the influence of certain circumstances, words appear that have several meanings. They are inherent in them initially, or similar things happen with time. As an example, you can cite a castle and a castle, as well as the word "language". This is the organ in the person's mouth, and some stretched area, and a prisoner of war who can provide valuable information.

And one of these words is "mantle". What is the mantle? When it is mentioned, different things come to mind: clothing, the structure of the planetary crust, and so on. In the article, we will analyze the meaning of this word, but about everything in order.

Planet

In the depths of our planet there are constantly various reactions, notice them with the naked eye, of course, it is impossible, but people always felt their consequences. Their most striking manifestations are earthquakes and their "satellites": tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and so on. Conditionally, the internal structure of our planet can be divided into three layers, this is the bark, mantle and core. So what is the mantle of the Earth?

As already mentioned, the mantle is a layer that occurs only in the terrestrial planets and is located between the surface crust and the inner core of the celestial body. According to the scientists' assumption, it is formed as a result of processes of separation of metal parts from the primary substance of the planet and leaving them in depth, and the products of melting of such substances result in the formation of the bark of the body. So now we have found out what the mantle of the Earth is. On our planet it consists mainly of peridotites.

As mentioned earlier, the planetary mantle is not unique to the Earth, it has almost all other known celestial bodies of the so-called terrestrial group - the Moon, Venus, Mars. But Mercury was less fortunate: as a result of a strong meteoric bombardment, the entire crust and a large part of the mantle were destroyed.

On Venus, the mantle differs from the terrestrial much more in temperature, and instead of tectonic plates in the bowels of our heavenly neighbor there are plume currents. So we figured out the question of what a geological mantle is. Now let us consider other meanings of this word.

clothing

Mantle is also a garment, it is very ancient, used by our ancestors millennia ago. But in our time it is used mainly as a symbolic or ritual apparel, for example, as a judicial robe. Surprisingly, such a mantle is considered the official dress of some employees of the judicial system of many countries.

Such clothing hides everything human and weak, raising the judge or lawyer over worldly passions and strong emotions that can affect the outcome of the case. And black color also symbolizes impartiality. Now we know what mantle is like as an official form of apparel for ministers of special organs.

Such an element of clothing is also part of the academic dress of graduates of many universities and teachers of academies and other educational institutions. True, such a tradition does not exist in all countries. It dates back to the Middle Ages, when the church had a strong influence on society, and most of the institutes and other educational institutions came from church schools. So we have analyzed yet another aspect of the question of what is the mantle, the definition of this word and what it means.

Zoology

In zoology, the mantle is a special fold of the skin that surrounds a part of the body or the whole body. We use the term in relation to mollusks and barnacles.

In the days of pre-revolutionary Russia in the textbooks of biology, the mantle was often called epanchs, but in our time this term is obsolete and is no longer used.
