What is the adjective name: several interesting and important facts

Literacy includes not only the placement of points and commas in the right place, but the exact use of parts of speech in accordance with the rules of linguistics. The adjective in Russian plays an important role in the formation of word combinations and sentences. Their use enriches our speech, makes it more saturated and imaginative. Probably, there are no adult people who do not know what an adjective is. However, there is a lot of interesting information about this morphological unit, which, undoubtedly, was mentioned in the school curriculum, but could eventually be forgotten.

A particle "not" with an adjective

Often there are situations when you seem to have a familiar word, but you do not know exactly how to write it correctly. Such cases include the use of adjectives with "not". Let's consider, in what cases it is necessary to write together.

First, the negative particle "not" is written together with the adjectives, the forms of which without this particle simply do not exist in modern language. For example, hostile, negligent.

Secondly, together with "not" adjectives are used, the meaning of which, when this particle is attached, changes to the opposite word in meaning. It must be remembered that such an adjective can be replaced by a synonym. For example, an unmarried person is single, and others.

Third, it is common to write adjectives with "not", which are used with explanatory words expressing the degree and measure. For example, a very inappropriate remark.

Separately from "not" adjectives are written in the following cases:

  • When used with relative names, adjectives. It is taken into account that such a name adjective asserts a negative meaning. For example, the ring is not silver (here it is emphasized that the ring was made not of silver).
  • When using adjectives, in which the short and full forms differ in meaning. Example: not a red tomato - the girl is not red.
  • When used with adjectives negative pronouns and adverbs, for example, is not an old concept, a story that nobody knows, and so on.
  • When using this morphological unit after the word being determined, the design has a value close to the turn with communion. For example, organizations that are not subordinate.

When writing adjectives with a "no" particle, you should pay attention to the sentence in which they are used. So, the same word can have different spelling depending on the role performed by this part of speech. For example, this person here is not local (predicate) - a non-local custom (definition).

How to write "nn" or "n"?

It is important to know that adjectives with the suffixes -an-, -yann-, -in-, should be written with one "n". Except for words: glass, tin and wood.

In adjectives with suffixes -on-, -en-, "nn" is used, for example, morning (sun), and others. The exception is windy. However, it should be noted that such an adjective is written with "nn" if it is used with a prefix. For example, lee, windless.

A few interesting moments

In the course of the evolution of the language, some adjectives have become nouns. These include: laundry, hairdresser, pantry and others. In addition, there are a number of words that can act as both parts of speech. These include: sick, familiar, blind and others.

Linguists also found that adjectives with unstable stress tend to be pronounced over time with an emphasis on the last syllables. So, previously used words such as "thunderous", "daytime". Now they were replaced by "day" and "thunderous".

As is known, the peculiarity of Russian adjectives is their ability to decline. Unlike them, the adjective in English does not change by gender, number and case, but it can form degrees of comparison.

Adjectives take the third place in the language (after verbs and nouns) in their number and importance. Their use is attached to the artistic expressiveness of our speech.
