What is cystitis? Medicines for cystitis

Cystitis is the presence of an infection in the bladder. The disease occurs in people of different ages, but more often in older women.

Causes of the disease

Often the main cause of the disease is a bacterial pathogen. In women, infection is caused by a peculiarity of the structure of the genitourinary system. Unlike men, the urethra is short and wide, close to the vagina, the rectum, and therefore the probability of infection in inflammatory diseases of the reproductive system is high.

Cystitis in women can provoke pregnancy, due to the pressure of the enlarged uterus on the bladder and the violation of outflow of urine, sex life, non-observance of personal hygiene. The disease is promoted by hypothermia, exposure to toxic substances on the inner membranes of the bladder, in men prostate adenoma, urethral contraction, prostate cancer, etc. Circulatory disorders, highly pathogenic bacteria and their prolonged stay in the bladder can also exacerbate cystitis.

It is not excluded the emergence of cystitis in the case of infection through the blood (hematogenous way). Both sexes of cystitis can cause chronic and acute inflammatory diseases of the kidneys, neoplasms, leukoplakia, tuberculosis of the urinary tract. This cystitis is considered secondary, being a complication of these diseases. Primarily arisen cystitis almost never occurs. It is usually based on some other disease of the bladder. In childhood, the disease occurs due to the anomaly of the development of the bladder.

Symptoms of the disease

The disease can occur unexpectedly, but in most cases the symptoms increase gradually. The patient complains of painful sensations in the lower abdomen, a burning sensation and itching in the area of the urethra. With severe cystitis, pain occurs in the suprapubic region. There are frequent urge to urinate, and the patient often feels that he has not completely emptied the bladder. The amount of urine for urination decreases, urine can be with an admixture of blood. There may be an incontinence. The general condition is relatively satisfactory. The temperature, as a rule, does not increase and only with a severe form of the disease reaches the subfebrile condition. Its increase may indicate the spread of the infection upwards (an ascending infection). When palpation examination of the suprapubic region, there is a slight soreness. Children have anterior abdominal wall.

When diagnosing, in the general analysis of urine, you can see a significant increase in leukocytes and red blood cells, which should normally be one. There is bacteriuria. When sowing urine, you can identify the pathogen, determine its number and on what antibiotics it is sensitive. A small leukocytosis and an increase in ESR are noted in the blood test.
