What is an oath? It is an oath of loyalty and observance of the law

The Oath is a very important and solemn event, during which an oath of loyalty and observance of any obligations are given. Most people immediately get an understandable association. And it is connected with the military oath. But it is worth noting that not only young people serving in the army give an oath. However, the topic is very interesting and detailed, so it is worth discussing it.

Historical meaning of the word

So, the oath is an ancient word, having a common Slavonic origin. And it is literally translated as follows: "to swear an oath."

Famous Russian lexicographer and ethnographer V.I. Dahl puts this term on a par with such words as "sazhen", "reach" and "reach". Why? Because in the named conceptual series lies the deep antiquity of the military Russian custom. Our ancestors, swearing an oath to fight courageously with enemies, confirmed the sincerity of their words, touching the sacred object. And they reached (reached). After all, between people and sacred objects there has always been a certain distance, distance. It was necessary to make the oath even more meaningful. By the way, the prince gave a similar oath to his soldiers. So he made it clear that they can count on him in case of any danger - the head will definitely stand to death and not leave his squad.

The military

Everyone knows that every man who went to serve in the army will soon expect an oath. This is an obligatory measure. And very solemn and important.

Soldiers are lining up "parcels" on the parade ground in dress uniforms and with automatic weapons in the "on the chest" position. Everyone, after hearing his surname, leaves with a drill step to the table, on which lies the folder, and inside - the text of the oath. Previously, it was quite long, but now it takes a maximum of half a minute to read it. The soldier swears in faith to his Fatherland, and also promises to follow the orders of the senior in rank, after which he signs the form in front of his own name (the list is prepared in advance) and returns to operation. When the last rookie takes the oath, the oath is completed. This is a solemn event, so after all the soldiers march on the parade ground to the music of the orchestra. The day in which they swear to serve the Motherland is a day off, and therefore they have the right to go on leave - though, unfortunately, only on the security of the passport of the guardian, parent or wife.

I must say that the oath is what happens only once in a lifetime. And those people who are dear to the soldier, and those whom he himself would like to see alongside on such an important day, are simply obliged to attend this event.

In medicine

Each of us has heard about the Hippocratic Oath at least once in my life. So, the process of pronouncing it by a doctor is also an oath. Its significance lies in the fact that the future doctor promises himself, and also all medicine in general, that he will observe the established moral and ethical principles of the doctor, but there are many of them. In total, in the oath, nine principles are set out, which the medic is obliged to observe. The oath was written in the three hundredth century BC. True, it has been copied from time to time. But still the meaning remained the same. An oath of this nature is usually given at a medical school.

Presidential oath

So, the above was told about what an oath is. The value, in principle, simple is an oath. It is interesting that the president passes through it. True, in this situation it is called inauguration. Or the same oath. This, they say, is a solemn ceremony, during which the head of the Russian state officially becomes such. It is carried out on the thirtieth day after the results of presidential elections were announced. The text of the oath is short - it consists of 33 words. And the point is that the president swears his people to protect his rights, freedoms, and also to defend Russia's independence and security.

In general, as can be seen, the value of the oath is one, in whatever context it is conducted.
