A noun is a whole world of objects and concepts. These are all words in relation to which in the singular nominative case we can ask the question: "who?" Or "what?".

In other words, the noun answers the question "who?", "What?" And denotes an object. The subject in English is all that answers the questions "who?", "What?" (Who (what) is this?)

For example: A bat (bat); A professor, (professor); A ball (ball) , a mouse (mouse).

The noun in English is used in combination with the two main attributes of this part of speech - the preposition and the article: a flower, the flower - a flower, in the garden - in the garden, behind the door - behind the door.

In addition to other characteristics, the noun can stand either in the general case or in the possessive:

The hat of a girl, a girl's hat - the girl's hat, a girl's hat;

The key of my room, the key to my room is me room's key.

Identify countable and uncountable nouns.

Countable - these are the objects and living things that you can count: rooms rooms, cats cats, flags - flags, symbols - symbols.

Uncountable nouns can not be counted: chalk - chalk, milk - milk, goodness - goodness, meat - meat.

The noun forms a plural by adding the -s or -es words to the end:

Flat - flat, flats - apartments; Liaf - leaf, leaves - leaves; Book - books, books - books.

When studying the topic "Noun", special cards with pictures of objects, people and animals on one side and translation - on the other are of great use.

Sometimes it is useful to just carry them with you in your pocket and periodically browse.

A great popularity among the contingent of the age category of grades 1-5 of the secondary school is the so-called poems-pacts - poems in Russian with an admixture of English words.

The subject "Noun" in English has a number of nuances, unlike the Russian equivalent, so you should be especially careful in cases, for example, when there are two nouns nearby: rain day - a rainy day. As can be seen from the example, the noun standing in front acts as an adjective.

Or an example: my sisters' room - the room of my sisters, my sisters're not students - my sisters are not students. In the first case, the apostrophe points to the possessive case, in the second - this abbreviation of the auxiliary verb are.

You should also carefully study the section of the topic "The number of nouns", because there are a large number of exceptions (phenomeno-phenomena), which can also easily be misleading.
