What is an escape? The meaning of the word "escape"

Studying the meaning of words in Russian, one can better understand the logic of constructing artistic texts and significantly enrich your vocabulary. For example, if you ask people what an escape is, opinions will be divided. Someone decides that it is about running away, others will start talking about plants, and all will be right at the same time. Out of context, it is impossible to determine which of the values is meant.

Homonyms in the Russian language: escape or escape?

If different objects, phenomena or actions are called the same word, that is, by letter combination, they are homonymous. The concept was introduced by Aristotle, who conducted a linguistic analysis and systematized the signs of homonym. Consequently, not only the Russian language can boast of the presence of such words, this phenomenon is noted in almost all known languages of the world. The semantics of homonyms can coincide by the most unexpected signs. When analyzing what an escape is, you can find some common signs, even if they are not at first glance - the plant seems to be fleeing from the ground, throwing out a new sprout. On such very distant semantic parallels, many homonyms are constructed, for example - a braid as an instrument, as a female hairdress and a sandy beach, it is something long, narrow and elongated.

Escape from prison or captivity

One of the main values is the flight, and against the will of those who put the fugitive in the place of imprisonment. In most cases, the lawfulness of deprivation of liberty is not considered, although in criminal law the unauthorized abandonment of a protected territory is considered an offense if it is a person deprived of liberty by a court decision. What is an escape in the broadest sense of the word with this particular semantics? Any place of deprivation or significant restriction of the freedom of movement of citizens is controlled by persons authorized to do so. Even if these powers are not recognized by prisoners, their actions still qualify as escape.

Freedoms are partially deprived of persons performing urgent military service, and completely - prisoners in correctional institutions, as well as prisoners captured as a result of military operations or for criminal purposes. And if escape from prison is a crime, then the so-called wolvolk in the army has less severe consequences for violators. At the same time, no one can condemn the flight of captives, this is a natural tendency of a person to illegally deprived freedom.

Emotional appeal of escape in artistic subjects

In the world there are a huge number of books, films and music compositions dedicated to fugitives of all stripes. After all, what is an escape, how not an active action in order to gain lost will? This raises the emotional response of viewers and readers, they empathize, they support the freedom fighters spiritually, especially if they are positive characters. Sometimes even a negative hero who skillfully extracts his freedom, is sympathetic, despite all his bad qualities. This theme is used for centuries and is unlikely to lose relevance. All of us in one way or another feel the limitations of our will, so we will empathize and enthusiastically follow the adventures and plot twists.

Escape as a psychological device

There are such terms as "escape from reality" or "escape from responsibility". Avoiding any hurtful realities or limitations, a person commits a psychological flight, inventing at times many reasons, excuses and tricks that allow him to break free.

In this case, the meaning of the word "escape" is rather figurative, because in fact a person does not actually disappear anywhere, but he fences himself off from the stimulus by any means, sometimes causing this indignation of others. In this case, this action can be both conscious and prepared, and unconscious, when a person does not suspect that his psyche takes protective measures to maintain equilibrium.

The extreme manifestation of escape from reality is amnesia, short-term or absolute. If the psyche regards certain events as excessively traumatic, it can "escape", that is, disconnect any memory of the incident.

Escape the Plants

Not less widely used is another semantic content of this homonym. This is a young part of the plant, on which there is a growth bud and the possibility of developing lateral sprouts. What does "escape" in botany mean? This sprout can be anywhere, for example, offshoots from the main branch are also called shoots, as well as young shoots, which broke from the root of the parent plant.

Sprouts can be easily propagated by many fruit bushes and trees, ornamental plants. This way of reproduction can turn one cherry tree into a whole garden, if the roots do not cut off from the roots in time. Even small young plants, barely rooted out of the seed in the ground, are called shoots. Such a sprout is called a first-order shoot, but lateral branches from the central branch are numbered in order. So shoots of the second, third, fourth order and so on appear. Depending on the type of plant, the lateral shoots can be quite a lot.

Portable meaning of the word

If the escape is a sprout, then one can easily understand why this word is so often used in a figurative sense. In figurative speech, only phenomena that do not acquire shoots - evil, mercy and even economics. The imagination of people is boundless, the authors do not climb into a pocket for a biting comparison or a metaphor, therefore it is possible to meet this word in a figurative sense practically in any area, even if it is so inappropriate.

Shoots of evil - this phrase became the most worn out in the literature. Emotionally, it is called to cause the reader or viewer a sense of anxiety: there is still no evil, but it already shows signs, the first shoots have already made their way. In the works of art with the help of such phrases the general tonality of the narrative is formed, but this phenomenon breaks even into journalism. Journalists sometimes resort to imaginative comparisons - metaphors - trying to get readers to engage emotionally. For example, initiatives in the field of charity will be called "the first shoots of charity", no one will even have an analogy with escaping from prison - here the context, not even hinting at botany, implies the meaning of "sprouts of mercy".
