What is a primer for cars? Overview of types and classifications of primers

The product of the priming and painting of the bodywork is a very important matter for every motorist, requiring a lot of time, attention and effort. After all, from how qualitatively you paint your iron friend, will depend on its future appearance, as well as the degree of vulnerability to corrosion. It is clear that expensive equipment for this purpose is not necessary to buy (if only because its price is comparable to the cost of a new car), but to pay close attention to the choice of materials for painting is just necessary. And today we will talk about such material as a primer for cars.

What is it important?

Despite the fact that this material does not affect the aesthetic qualities of the machine, since several layers of paint are applied on top of it, it is not worth saving on it. Primer for cars is used first, so it is it that performs the function of reliable adhesion of the paint and metal on the body. Also, from the correct application of it will depend on how long your car will last without rust. Proceeding from this, it can be understood that the primer for cars is not just a formality, but the very first step towards painting the body, on which the future appearance of the car will depend.

Varieties

At the moment there are so many varieties of this material, but today we will consider only the most basic of its types.

Etching primer for cars is one of the most popular paint materials among domestic motorists. It contains a special acid, which when applied to the surface of the body removes a small layer of metal. This is done so that the next layers of paint are better kept on the machine, and, of course, that in the future there are no corrosion effects.

Strengthening primer is mainly used for leveling the surface of the car body at the slightest dents. It is very easy to work with it and thanks to its special composition it can be applied in several layers, leveling the dent to the desired kind. However, it is not necessary to confuse the strengthening soil with a hardener, which, in fact, is not considered a primer and is applied to certain cracks and damages in large quantities, filling all irregularities with its mass (similar to putty). And it is applied only with the help of a compressor under high pressure.

Anticorrosive primer for auto is the most popular for all Russian cars. It must be applied to bare metal in order to protect it from rust. If this material is applied to the old paint and then after the drying of the soil, apply fresh, then there will be no protection against rust, not to mention the adhesion of the layers of paint. In all specialized stores, an anticorrosive primer is sold in cans. For auto, this is a very big plus, as the paint splashes fill the entire perimeter of the surface, and after 1-2 layers on the metal there are not any gaps at all. This is an excellent body protection against rust, and it can be applied absolutely to any car, whether it's a foreign car or a domestic VAZ.
