Skier Dario Cologna: photo, brief biography, personal life

A skier, a three-time Olympic champion, is one of the most versatile athletes of his generation. It can be argued that this person is almost always able to claim the highest steps of the pedestal in any race, anywhere and in any style.

Darijo Cologna - the only three-time winner in the overall standings of the World Cup in the modern form - peloton.

Currently, this athlete is one of the most popular skiers. Born in mountain Switzerland, Dario, in fact, had to get up on skis (mountain), which he did at a very young age. But fate ordered a little differently: after classes on the slopes for several years, he still changed skis to cross-country.

short biography

In 1986, a future talented sportsman, Dario Alonzo Cologna, was born in Switzerland (Santa Maria-Vol-Müstair) on March 11th.

At the age of 5, Dario Cologna began to ski for the first time (mountain). He moved to cross-country skiing in 1999. He also actively took a great interest in sports such as bicycle and football.

As a young man, the young athlete won numerous medals at the international level. For the first time in the world championship he took part in 2004. These were ski sports among juniors in Norway. Race free style (10 kilometers), he completed the 24th.

It's hard to say what the choice of a sportsman is for this particular sport (possibly with less competition), but thanks to what happened, the Swiss brought his country three Olympic medals of the highest standard.

The first race he won only in 2006. There was it on one of prestigious races "Tour de Ski" consisting of eight stages in which sportsmen should overcome 60 km.

The athlete is versatile. During his career as a sportsman, he participates both in races with ultra short distances, and super-long ones. And they are conducted with the use of both classical and free styles.

Three times (2009, 2011, 2012), the Swiss won a fairly prestigious race "Tour de Ski" (multi-day), which is held annually in December and January.

Being one of the few famous world stars of skiing, Dario Colonia for a long time could not achieve significant achievements in major prestigious international tournaments.

For example, in Vancouver-2010 he won a gold Olympic medal (15 km) with a separate start, but fell at the very last turn of the 50-kilometer marathon.

In the Sochi Olympics (2014), Dario won in the individual race and in the skiathlon. But in the marathon, like 4 years ago, he was again faced with an unfortunate failure: in the last part of the race he had a broken ski.

Before the Olympics in Sochi (2014), Dario Cologna was considered one of the main favorites, and deservedly earned his first Sochi gold Swiss for 15 kilometers, becoming a two-time champion at such a distance. The second gold in Sochi - in the skiathlon (15 km - free, 15 km - classic style).

Dario Cologna: personal life

Now Cologna lives in Davos, having 2 citizenships (Italian and Swiss). Says the star skier in five languages (Italian, Romansh, French, German and English).

However, he very rarely gives interviews to journalists of various TV channels and sports publications, so almost nothing is known about his personal life. He prefers to spend most of his free time playing alone.

Finally

Now the Swiss skier is 30 years old, and probably he will be able to take part in the subsequent Olympic Games and also fight for prizes in a variety of races. Apparently, he still has strength and incredible opportunities.
