Sinusitis in the child: symptoms in different forms of the disease
One of the varieties of sinusitis, characterized by an inflammatory process in the maxillary sinus is a sinusitis. In a child, the symptoms of such a disease depend on its shape, acute or chronic. In the first case, inflammation occurs mainly in epithelial cells, underlying tissues and blood vessels. In the second case, the pathological process extends to the sinus bone walls and the submucosa base. The disease can develop in one sinus (unilateral sinusitis) or immediately in both (bilateral sinusitis). At the child the inflammation begins after any transferred catarrhal disease. Also, the beginning of the pathological process can serve as a disease of the teeth, oral cavity.
The main clinical signs are unpleasant sensations in the area of the affected sinus, which eventually grows. The morbidity is less in the morning, and by the evening begins to intensify. Gradually the child ceases to feel pain in a certain place, his head starts to ache. This is due to the accumulation of pus in the inflamed sinus. In this case, the pain in the head has a pressing character, often it is located in the forehead zone. If you press on the area under the eyes or lift your eyelids, the pain can intensify. One-sided sinusitis in a child causes symptoms on one half of the face, with a two-sided entire face.
Chronic sinusitis in a child
Symptoms with this form of the disease are poorly expressed, which leads to difficulties in diagnosis. The main symptom is a chronic cold that is not amenable to traditional treatment. It can be supplemented with headaches that stop in the supine position. In the morning, there may be swelling of the eyelids. In addition, as a result of the irritating effect of pus coming from the affected sinus on the pharyngeal wall, a cough may appear.
