What is a langette on the leg? How to put a langette on the leg, toe, knee or ankle?

In winter, injuries of the lower extremities are common. The reason for this is slippery paths and slopes, icy and uneven surfaces. Most often, injuries to the ankles, toes, and the entire foot occur during this period. To provide first aid to yourself or your loved ones in the current situation, you should know how to apply a langette on your leg. Everyone should understand how to properly help themselves and others in this situation. The case can get by with a bruise, but a fracture is not excluded. First, you need to understand what a langet on the leg is and how it differs from other types of fixing dressings, for example, gypsum.

What is it, where is it used?

Langhete is a plaster bandage rewound with a normal bandage. It covers the injured part of the limb. Used to fix bandages and injured joints. It is a removable element, unlike gypsum, which is very convenient for sanitation. The elastic devices are used on the joints.

Also sometimes a langnet is called a tire. They are used not only for the treatment of injuries, but also for the purpose of correcting the congenital pathologies of the human limbs. This mainly happens in childhood, when the body is still being formed and there is the possibility, with the help of a device made by a doctor specially for this patient, to correct curvatures and allow the child to walk straight. Some people do not know what a langet is, because in everyday life it is called a tire. But not in all cases, you can equate these concepts.

How to make a plaster langetto yourself?

It is necessary to know that a langette on the leg is sometimes made of ordinary gypsum, or rather, from gauze bandages impregnated with it. To begin with, mix gypsum with the same amount of water. After six to seven minutes, the resulting mass should harden. It is important to check the quality of the material at this stage. You can do it by squeezing it into a fist. If after such manipulation the gypsum does not break down, then everything is mixed correctly and you can use it. But if it crumbles or crumples in your hand, and even worse, if you smell rotten eggs, you can not use this material.

If it is required that the gypsum freeze quickly, it must be mixed with warm water. And if you need to slow down the process - then with a cold, with the addition of starch paste. When the mixture is ready, gauze will be required, but it must be white. Yellow for these purposes will not work. The bandage should not be longer than three meters, at its end it is necessary to pour a small amount of gypsum and rub over the entire untwisted part of the gauze. To make the langets, you need to make three to eight such layers and fold them from both ends to the middle. After that, they should be soaked and smoothed between the palms. In places, bends, for example, on the heel, you need to make an incision.

Rules for putting a langette on the leg

In order for this device to be useful, and not harmful, you need to know the intricacies of working with the material. The main thing - during the procedure to fix two joints, and with a hip injury - three. While the gypsum is not frozen, it is necessary to give the leg a comfortable position. While the langette is not fixed, you need to keep the limb motionless. It is important to prevent the breakage of gypsum during hardening. At the ends of the dressing, you can put a clean bandage or pieces of cotton wool to avoid rubbing and pressure. It should not crush, but it is not necessary to do it too freely.

Langhete on toes. Features

A langette is applied on the toe in the event of a fracture. The main symptoms are: severe pain, abnormal position of the finger, swelling, unnatural mobility or crunching of fragments. And even a hemorrhage under the fingernail may indicate a fracture. Such symptoms can be seen in the trauma of any limb, but in the case of the thumb, things are more critical. In this case, the langet is fixed on the foot entirely, down to the shin.

If the main phalanx of the finger or the middle fractures, it is superimposed in the form of a sole from gypsum and is tied to the foot with gauze. It turns out a kind of "slipper", which fixes the injured limb in an even motion with respect to the entire foot. Use this device will need about six weeks, periodically removing to process skin and replace the wrapping gauze.

Ankle Fixation

Fracture of the ankle often happens, and in this case it is necessary to immediately make a radiograph, because its symptoms are very similar to signs of a normal dislocation or bruise: swelling, severe pain, weak support on the limb. When treating such an injury, it is necessary to take into account not only the restoration of the bone, but also the joint. First of all, you should contact an experienced specialist who will fix bone fragments, and only after that you can apply a cast.

Langothek on the ankle is superimposed approximately the same as in the case of a fracture of the finger on the leg. The difference is that with this injury it should be extended to the knee from the back side of the foot, and fastened to it also with gauze. But if there was a partial rupture of ligaments, a non-removable ankle should be used on the ankle, which looks like a "boot". Two weeks later, they change it.

Tension of the ligaments of the knee joint

If the integrity of the knee joints is impaired, a langette is applied to the leg. This injury is considered the most common among athletes. To begin with, the joint must be brought to a steady state. In case there is no possibility to quickly mix gypsum, make a temporary langette. To do this, you need to attach a board on the back of the leg from the hip to the heel and attach it with a gauze bandage. The constant is done differently: a tight bandage is applied to the knee, and a langette is fixed on top that starts from the hip and ends at the foot.

Langothek with additional materials

When stretching and dislocating, elastic bandage is often used instead of gauze. It has its advantages. It has a greater plasticity and is reusable. This property is very useful for injuries, because such a bandage is easy to remove and treat swelling with ointment. The leggings on the leg with an elastic bandage will work if it is applied a week after the injury, when the fixed plaster is no longer needed, but the fixation of the joint is necessary. If possible, it is better to make a lang of synthetic polymer gypsum. Its advantages are indisputable, because it does not soak or crumble.

It should be added that with untimely treatment of injuries of the lower extremities, serious consequences and surgical intervention are possible. When there is a trauma to any part of the legs, do not look for a photo of the langet on the leg and try to apply it yourself to the non-directional bone. First of all, you should consult your doctor and take an X-ray.
