What does the burning oil pressure sensor say?

The mechanism of the car includes many systems, each of which plays a huge role in its work. Failure of one can lead not only to failure, but also to damage to the other. If you do not follow their condition, then it is fraught with negative consequences. To avoid this, it is always necessary to monitor their serviceability.

In order to monitor the car, it is equipped with a set of instruments and sensors that indicate the state. One is the oil pressure sensor. The lubrication system of the car uses three types of oil supply to the parts: spray, gravity and pressure. It is logical to assume that the first and second versions simply can not fail, since the first is used to lubricate the walls of the cylinders, and the second - the mechanisms and joints of the gears.

There remains only one fault of this nature: pressure drop in the lubrication system. To determine it, a sensor is used, which is screwed into the engine block. Its readings are output to the dashboard. Here it can be just a control lamp, or maybe a device with a scale. Any car enthusiast knows that a burning oil pressure warning lamp will not lead to anything good. If the oil pressure sensor is on, it is urgent to start looking for the cause. There can be several.

Perhaps the oil pressure sensor itself is faulty, which is screwed into the unit or the device. This is checked by the testers' indicators, it is checked for resistance, the latter just needs to be defective. If the oil pressure switch still lights up, then the motor disassembly is imminent. In the engine itself, there can be more than one fault. To begin with, it is worth to get to the oil filter and check its tightness, and also to find out if it is not blocked. If this is the case, the oil is simply not fed into the system, but through the pump reduction valve, it is discharged into the crankcase.

If the filter is in order, then it is worthwhile to think about the state of the pump itself. There are times when a reducer gets some small thing, and it hangs. Pump, even the most productive, in such conditions can not pump the right pressure, it simply discharges. This is a rare case, but it happens. If everything is fine, you need to disassemble the pump and make sure that it is not knocked off. This is done with the help of a feeler, which measures the distance at the junction of the gears, as well as between the gears and the pump walls. For each car, such indicators are different, they can be found in the manual.

If, after such operations, the oil pressure sensor shows less than normal pressure, then one option remains - wear of the crankshaft inserts and necks . Its repair is reduced to replacing the first or polishing the second, in this case, you still have to change the inserts themselves. This repair is not too expensive, but there may be problems with the quality of the parts, so this should be paid special attention.

As a rule, the oil pressure sensor starts to burn first on the warmed-up engine, and then only such a malfunction appears on the cold unit. The fact is that at high temperatures the viscosity of the oil drops significantly, while at normal temperatures it remains at a proper level. If you do not pay attention to this in the first stage, then the second repair can do much more expensive, until the replacement of the crankshaft.
