What are the good brake pads? Brake pad manufacturers: rating

One of the main components of the safety of the car is its braking system. Therefore, the questions, what good brake pads for the machine, by what criteria are chosen and which manufacturers can be trusted, are of interest to many. In the article you will find the answers to them.

What are pads?

Brake pads are a part in contact with the brake disc, because of which the car gradually slows down and eventually stops. They are installed on all wheels.

The shoe is based on a steel base, on top of which there is a friction coating. Of what material it should consist of - there is no common opinion among specialists to this day. Therefore, it is difficult to name the best of the best. Nevertheless, there are a number of criteria for making a successful selection of these details.

Classification

Conditionally brake pads for cars are divided into three groups:

  • Delivered to the conveyor;
  • Supplied to the market of spare parts;
  • Exported to developing countries.

The difference in price and quality

At the factory for the production of cars, the pads are delivered, fully meeting the requirements of the customer. Therefore, original auto parts are manufactured in exactly the same way as on the conveyor. Differences can only concern the presence of beautiful and stylish packaging. Some of them are stamped with the logo of the car manufacturer for which they are intended. Others go under the factory label. The most popular are those pads that are produced under the brand of the company that produces them.

The cost of the next category is from 30 to 70 percent of the value of the previous ones. Such details are called still aftermarket. It is clear that their quality is an order of magnitude lower. Nevertheless, they are also considered quite good. In this case, it happens that the same company has several brands of brake pads, which differ from each other in price and quality class. An example of this is Pagid and Textar - these are different brands that are made by one concern. However, the first are installed on the "Porsche" and "Audi" premium, and the latter are as spare parts for cars in stores.

The last group includes brake pads, which are intended for developing countries. They cost less than anything. Typically, their cost is less than five times compared with the first group. They are made from the simplest and cheapest material.

How to make the right choice

If we consider the most expensive option, then such kits will be different packaging of excellent quality. The sign of ECE R90 compliance is encouraging, which in itself is a guarantee of a high level by European standards. When inspecting a set of brake pads, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that they did not have the slightest crack, even a millimeter. The support should be free of deformations, and the frictional coating should be close to the metal.

As mentioned above, the construction of the pad is a combination of metal and friction coating. But there are manufacturers who, in addition to these, add layers of another material, for example, from a thermo-absorbing composition to prevent the transfer of heat to the brake fluid and the support.

Pads can be made of a variety of materials. Therefore, when installing a new kit, it is recommended to travel at least a thousand kilometers using only smooth braking, since, depending on the composition, they can even smoke at a sharp stop.

Do you need sports pads for the city?

In addition to the above criteria, it is worth paying attention to such indicators as operating temperature and coefficient of friction. That style of driving, which is usually inherent in the driver, produces a certain temperature. To quietly drive around the city, enough 350 degrees. For sporty driving, pads are required, the working temperature of which exceeds the usual three times. The same is with the coefficient of friction. With normal driving, standard pads will be more effective.

Brake pads for sports cars

Such details are made by very famous manufacturers of brake pads, whose rating on the market remains very high. This is Ferodo, EBC, Brembo.

Let's start with Ferodo. Due to the fact that the manufacturer began to produce shoe more economical class, its level in the market a little lowered. Nevertheless, the company has a series called DS Performance, which is designed specifically for active driving. The temperature resistance of the parts is 700 degrees Celsius, and the coefficient of friction is 0.5 units. That's what good brake pads are perfect for fans of dynamic and aggressive driving. But for the sports class there are even more serious products of the series called Racing. For amateur racing, the Ferodo Racing DS2000 and 2500 are recommended.

The EBC brand has a similar classification. Premium premium shoes come out under the name Ultimax, the permissible temperature reaches 450 degrees, and the coefficient of friction is 0.46 units. Sports series suitable for street racing are Redstuff Ceramic and Greenstuff, and the next two series - Yellowstuff and Bluestuff - are already made for supercars and reinforced with steel fiber. Their maximum temperature can reach 900 degrees Celsius.

Separately want to say about Brembo. This company supplies such legends as "Maserati" and "Ferrari". The usual pads in the company are not recognized in principle. The line contains only the sports line and the one that is designed for such mega supercars as "Veyron" and "Bugati".

It is necessary to understand what good brake pads are for sports driving, and which ones - for a quiet life. In normal driving, sport shoes are completely useless, as they warm up considerably longer.

Pads for individual car brands

Choose these details based on what brake pad number is available. Further, in addition to the general criteria and recommendations of the automaker, drivers are often guided by the opinions of other people who have already tried different options.

Sometimes the same pads can be used on different brands of cars. But at the same time, the owner needs to know what kinds are allowed to operate with the brake system of his car.

By general recommendations and reviews of motorists, for "Lada-Priora", "Kalina" or "Grants" a good choice will be Ferodo pads worth from 1500 rubles.

Ukrainian "Dafmi" - these are excellent brake pads VAZ. The average price is 900 rubles. They have a high coefficient of friction, perfectly suitable for VAZ-2114 and 2112.

On the "Chevrolet Cruise", "Renault Logan" can be installed brake pads for foreign cars Sangsin and Remsa, the cost of 900 rubles. Also a good choice here will be ATE, which, by the way, will also suit VAZ cars.

For "Accent" and "Solaris" you can buy Hankook and Sangsin at a price of 1100 rubles.

How to check

Check the wear of your shoes can be done by yourself. To do this, remove the wheel and evaluate the remaining friction material on all the pads. In order for the car to drive normally, the thickness of the brake pads in the frictional layer must be at least two to three millimeters. If there is a large erasure, then it is necessary to replace the pads urgently. The normal mileage for them is 30 thousand kilometers. If the pads are worn out at a much smaller kilometer, then it's worth thinking about buying other brands.

If a replacement is not made on time, the motorist will soon begin to hear an unpleasant creak. Of course, this can not be allowed, and it is necessary to change the pads. But in practice it often turns out that even in such cases, some drivers continue to drive with old parts, not realizing that non-elimination of this minor breakage will lead to more serious problems, and then it will be necessary to change the brake disk and other parts.

Testing

Since the manufacturers of brake pads are very many, and the prices for parts are completely different, it is sometimes very difficult to decide the choice. In connection with this, a number of specialists have carried out research. At the same time brake pads of different brands were tested, and the best manufacturers of brake pads were selected. The rating was compiled based on the results of complex laboratory studies.

The tests were carried out with cold, hot, cooled braking and a mountain cycle. According to the results, all depreciation was calculated as a percentage. In studies, the coefficients of friction coefficient, operating temperature, possibility of sparks, smoke and odor were checked.

For testing, the following pads were selected:

  • VATI, EZATI, STS, Polyhedron, TIIR (Russia).
  • ATE, Bosch, Best (Germany).
  • Dafmi, Trans Master (Ukraine).
  • Lucas, Ferodo, AP Lockheed, QH (United Kingdom).
  • Roulunds (Denmark).
  • Rona (Hungary).
  • Samko (Italy).

According to the results of the research, the brake pads QH and ATE showed themselves to be the best. And the price, and the quality of them fully justify themselves. In this case, QH is best used with the native disk, and for ATE, the VAZ will be optimal.

On the second place there were brake pads Rolundus, STS, Best, Rona and Trans Master.

The third place was awarded with the details of EAZTI, VATI and with the strains of Dafmi and Lucas.

The rest did not justify themselves and even disappointed.

So, what good brake pads, you can find out by different criteria, in particular for the manufacturer, class, opinion of other motorists, and also on the results of independent experiments.
