We study the Pacific Ocean basin: rivers and their features

Our planet Earth has an excellent water system. Of course, these are oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. Thanks to such water supply, life on the continents is possible. In this article I would like to consider those watercourses that enter the Pacific Ocean basin. The rivers mostly originate high in the mountains. They are deep and fast. The relief of the channels is quite complicated, differs by the presence of a large number of thresholds. On their way, the streams cut into rocky massifs and wash out clastic rocks. Their food is mainly rain, only in the north-east - snow.

With the rapid flow of almost all the rivers in the Pacific basin. The list of these watercourses is headed by r. Anadyr and the river. Amur. They are considered the most significant for the Russian state and the largest. There are also other rivers that flow on the territory of China and other countries. In all there are about forty.

So, let's look at some rivers related to the Pacific Ocean basin.

The Anadyr River

It is located in the north-east of Russia, on the Chukchi Peninsula. Its source originates from the lake, which is located in the middle part of the Anadyr plateau. The length of the river is about 1100 km, and the area of the basin is approximately 191 thousand square meters. Km. The Chukchi river has large tributaries, there are only six of them: Yablon, Eropol, Mine - right, and Chinevei, Belaya, Tanyurer - the left. From September to April, the river is frozen by ice - first upstream, and then downstream. The plant and animal life of the water area forms the basin of the Pacific Ocean.

The rivers of this region are of great importance for the state. For example, Anadyr is used as shipping, but only for small ships. Also here industrial fishery is developed, but only at the source and in the lower reaches. Amateur fishing competitions are held in the upper reaches of the stream. The coastline of the river is rich in coal.

Amur river

The length of the river bed is 2,875 km and the area of the basin is more than 4 thousand kilometers due to its location in three countries - Russia, China and Mongolia. Cupid begins at the confluence of the Argun and Shilka streams. The source of the river. Argun is in Mongolia, and Shilka originates in the Chita region.

Like many other rivers in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, the Amur has a lot of tributaries, but seven are distinguished from them: Zeya, Ussuri, Sungari, Anyui - right, and Bureya, Amgun, Tunguska - left.

This river is covered by ice for almost 6 months, approximately from November to April-May. Spills during the summer monsoon, which falls in July-August. The river is used in large shipping, industrial and recreational fishing, and is also a border zone.

The Yellow River

On the territory of China, the Yellow River flows. As already mentioned above, all water streams entering the Pacific Ocean basin are mountain type rivers. Yellow River is no exception. Its source is in the Tibetan mountains, it carries its waters along the Great Plain of China to the Bohansky Gulf in the Yellow Sea. The river is also called yellow due to the fact that the loess, which is washed from the rocky areas, gives it the appropriate color. The main tributaries of the river are Dasya, Tao, Weihe and Lokha.

They use the Yellow River mainly in agriculture, for irrigation. A large number of hydroelectric power stations are built along the coasts, aquaculture is developing, and for navigation only the flat area of the river is suitable. The main problem is the frequent change in the channel.

Yangtze River

The Yangtze River is located on the territory of China and its length is 6,300 km, so its other name is the Long River. It should be noted that in the main the rivers of the Pacific basin are quite deep. The Yangtze River is the third water flow of the world according to the high water content. The source of the river is in the eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau, at an altitude of more than 5 thousand km. It flows, as well as the Yellow River, along the Great Plain of China and delves into the East China Sea, where Shanghai is located.

The tributaries of the Yangtze are quite large rivers - they are Minjiang, Tuo, Jialingjiang, Han, Yalongjiang. The food is monsoon, and in the upper reaches a small percentage of snow and glacial. Only the relatively calm upper reaches of the river freeze, and then for a short time.

Economic use of the Yangtze:

  • Transport shipping network (the Yangtze River is connected to the Yellow River Canal);
  • Irrigation system;
  • Industrial fishing, etc.

Mekong River

The Mekong River is the largest river of six states (China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia), which is located on the Indochina Peninsula. She enters the Pacific Ocean basin. Rivers of mountain origin are characterized by a rapid current and a troubled nature. This is how you can characterize the Mekong flow.

The length of the river is 4,500 km, and the area is slightly more than 800,000 sq. Km. Km. The source is located in the Tibetan Plateau, on the Tangla Ridge. In the upper reaches the river with numerous rapids, and in the lower reaches a large number of bends. An interesting feature of the flow is that it connects to the lake Tonle Sap, so they feed each other.

Mekong is important in transport navigation, even sea vessels go deep into the peninsula, since the lower course of the river has a sufficient depth.
