Fallen Angel

Azazel is a character in a biblical story. The Old Testament legend says that one of the angels once opposed God's will, for which he was sent to the underworld. But before he was deprived of the main heavenly attribute: the wings. The fallen angel lived in hell, became popular. Writers and poets turn to his image throughout almost the entire history of mankind.

Bulgakov somewhat modified the face of this character, and most importantly, remade his name in the Italian manner. Azazello in the novel "The Master and Margarita", as befits an inhabitant of the dark, is terrible, cunning and cruel. What role does this character play in the Woland suite?

Unpleasant character

The devil's helpers, despite their tricks, evoke sympathy. Behemoth incessantly sharpens. Koroviev, though possessing a crappy voice and vile appearance, but a smile. Azazello, unlike his "colleagues", is terse, devoid of charm. His role in the retinue is doing dirty work. For the first time he appears directly from the mirror in the apartment of Stepa Likhodeev.
