Watering Room Plants Into Your Absence

What needs to be done so that during your long absence the indoor plants are not affected by heat and lack of moisture?

First, it is necessary to provide plants with a shadow and a coolness. Remove all plants from the window sills in a shaded cool place. It is advisable to remove even light-loving plants that require frequent watering: in sunlight, the earth quickly loses moisture. You can put some of the plants in the bath, it is important only to remember to ensure good ventilation in the room.

Secondly, the room in which the plants are located should be ventilated. The ideal option is to leave the ventilator open to ensure a constant airing and to prevent air heating in the room to high temperatures. If the weather is hot, place containers near the plants with water.

Thirdly, it is necessary to provide watering of indoor plants, to prevent the drying of the soil.

If you do not have the opportunity to entrust watering of indoor plants to relatives, friends or neighbors, then there are several ways to ensure watering.

The first is to install pots with plants in trays, or in a bath filled with water to a level not exceeding 1/3 the height of the pot. In the tray or bath it is better to add sawdust or sand, this will help prevent waterlogging of the land.

The second way is to use a hydrogel. Before using the hydrogel, it is necessary to remove a part of the earth from the pots (to a level of several centimeters), since the hydrogel from the water expands. After adding hydrogel to the soil, the plants are abundantly watered. Hydrogel improves soil structure and allows to significantly increase the intervals between waterings, which makes it possible to leave plants unattended for up to two weeks.

The third way is to use plastic bottles for watering. To do this, a water filled plastic bottle is dug into the ground down with a neck (in the plug, you must first make a small hole). A drip irrigation method is also popular. A large container of water is placed on an elevation, then bundles of bandages, previously moistened with water, one end are immersed in a container of water, the other end - in a pot with a plant.

The most optimal option for caring for indoor plants (especially if you have rare and expensive plants) is the acquisition of a system of automatic watering of indoor plants. Such a system provides the possibility of simultaneous watering up to twenty pots for up to 40 days.

Note: cacti can generally do without watering for a long time, it is enough to water aloe once a week, and plants like violets, geraniums, money tree, on the contrary, require frequent and abundant watering.
