Vulvitis: symptoms and methods of prevention

Vulvit is an inflammatory process in the external genitalia (in the vulva), in which the focus is on the vaginal mucosa. As a rule, it occurs after mechanical damage, transferred infections or fungal diseases.

What causes vulvitis, the causes of it

There are primary and secondary vulvitis, depending on the origin of the inflammatory process.

Primary vulvitis appears on the site of mechanical injuries or chemical burns of the vagina. Damaged areas easily become infected and become inflamed. Most of the small lesions are affected by older women and girls due to the lack of female sex hormones. This leads to drying and thinning of the vaginal mucosa.

By the way, mechanical trauma can also appear on the site of scratching caused by severe itching in people with diabetes mellitus or infected with helminths.

Secondary vulvitis develops against the background of an existing infection of the genital organs, such as colpitis, endometritis, cervicitis. In addition, a factor predisposing to the inflammatory process is the dysfunction of the ovaries.

Acute vulvitis (symptoms)

There is an acute and chronic form of the disease. Acute vulvitis develops very quickly and manifests itself in the form of puffiness and redness of the vagina. In this case, the appearance of red spots and enlargement of the lymph nodes are sometimes observed in the groin, and abundant purulent discharge appears on the mucosa. Patients complain of severe itching and burning, as well as pain in the lower abdomen. All this is accompanied by a feeling of weakness and a violation of overall well-being.

Chronic vulvitis (symptoms)

In chronic form, the symptoms of the disease are less pronounced. Persistent is only a burning sensation when urinating and walking, as well as the itching and redness of the vaginal mucosa.

Vulvitis, its symptoms and various pathological changes in the mucosa

Depending on how exactly pathological changes occur in the mucous membrane of the genitals, atrophic vulvitis is released, which is manifested mainly in women during the onset of menopause. Mucous with this thins, and without the appropriate hormonal therapy the disease will progress, causing the appearance of erosion.

Ulcerative vulvitis occurs in women of reproductive age. It manifests itself as a whitish coating on the damaged mucous genitalia. When it is washed, ulcers are formed.

Adhesive vulvitis is typical for girls suffering from a chronic form of the disease, as a result of which a fusion of the labia minora, otherwise called "synechia", is observed. As a rule, this pathology is detected by chance, since there are no painful sensations.
