• Additional silencer (resonator);
• Main (central) muffler.

Fastening of the VAZ-2114 silencer to the bottom of the car is carried out by means of several rubber shock absorbers.

From the cylinders, exhaust gases enter the exhaust manifold, to which the intake pipe is fixed and rigidly attached. Its role is to take and cool the exhausts a little before they get into the catalyst. In addition, the intake pipe is equipped with a lambda probe that collects information about the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust and transmits it to the electronic engine control unit.

In the catalyst, gases are cleaned of harmful combustion products, passing through a system of grids on which special chemicals are applied. Here, the primary noise silencing of the running engine also occurs.

The task of the resonator is to minimize the sound of the motor. For this purpose, a special system of acoustic "mirrors" is used, located inside it.

In the central muffler, the final dulling of the engine sound occurs. From it, gases are discharged outside the body with the help of an exhaust pipe.

Design of the VAZ-2114 silencer

In VAZ-2114 vehicles, a silencer of factory production has a structure consisting of:

• Metal casing;
• Inlet pipe;
• Front perforated pipe ;
• Anterior partitions;
• Middle partitions;
• The rear perforated tube;
• Posterior septum;
• Exhaust pipe.

Thanks to the partition system, the exhaust gases, entering the central muffler, are forced to pass a complex zigzag path through perforated tubes. As a result, the sound, in fact, becomes less loud.

Getting ready for replacement

Picking up and buying a suitable part, take care that you have at your disposal the necessary tools and tools. To replace the muffler, you will need:

• a hammer;
• Brush for metal;
• Car key on 13 (better 2 pieces);
• Rust remover (type WD-40);
• Dry cloth.

Their jointing is performed using a metal crimp coupling consisting of two halves. These halves are bolted to each other with nuts. We need to unleash them.
