Troučuchica - an icon that treats

The history of the birth of this image is closely intertwined with the life of one person who fought for Orthodoxy, preached Christianity and called for the veneration of icons. The name of this man was John Damascene, and he lived in the distant 9th century, it is with him associated the Three Hands, the icon of the Mother of God.

A little bit about the life of John

Rev. John Damascene in those days was in the service of the Caliph Damascus as minister. John was an honest man and did not hide his views: he vehemently opposed the heretics and pagans, urged all to honor the one God and the holy icons not to defile.

Approximately at the same time the Emperor Leo the Isaurian took the Visinti throne. He opposed the worshipers of icons and Orthodox Christians in general. With the coming to power of this man, terrible persecution of believers began. Of course, after learning about the views of Ionne Damascene, about his sermons and statements, the emperor Lev Isavryanin was furious.

In fact, it was because of this man that the Troeruchitsa, the icon of the Mother of God, before whom Damascene so often prayed, was soon born.

Punishment for John

As a result, the emperor decides to punish him in this way: a letter was drawn up allegedly on behalf of Damascene, in which John seemed to call on the Lion to attack Damascus.

The letter was sent to the Caliph, and the latter, in turn, gave the order to cut off the hand of betrayal to St. John and hang it as a sign of intimidation in the local market.

In the evening of the same day, tormented by terrible pains, John wrote a letter to the Caliph and asked him to give him the cut off hand. A brush was given to him. Throughout the night, the crippled John could not sleep, he was sitting near the image of the Most Holy Theotokos, attaching his severed hand to the joint and praying tirelessly, asking him to heal him from a terrible wound. When the Monk John fell asleep, in a dream the Virgin Mary appeared to him and said that his wound would soon be healed. But for this she ordered her to work with a cured hand and not be lazy.

Wonderful Healing

When John woke up, he found that his hand had grown together, and from yesterday's wound there was a large scar. In gratitude for his healing, he decided to make him a present to the Virgin. From a good piece of silver John put his hand and put it to the image, before which he prayed all night. It was from that time that the icon of the Mother of God-Troeruchitsa appeared.

Further history of the image

As the legend says, except for the silver hand, as a token of thanksgiving, John wrote a whole song, which was called "O You are rejoicing, Blessed, every creature". Subsequently, Damaskin went to the monastery and completely dedicated his life to God.

The icon of Troučuchice in the 13th century was donated to Savva of Serbia, and he brought this shrine to his homeland. From there a few years later, when the Turks went to Serbia, the image was sent on a free journey, tied to an ass. So they hoped to keep the icon from being abused.

Much to my surprise, the donkey with the icon safely reached one Athos monastery, where monks accepted this shrine with reverence.

Wonders of the Three Hands

Of course, the first miracle that this icon created was the healing of the Monk John. But this miracles did not end there!

When the hegumen died in the Athos monastery , the monks began to choose a new mentor, but could not do it. No matter how much they argued or chose - they did not come to the same decision. And one morning, when they came to work, they saw that there was a Troučuchka on the abbot. The icon was immediately transferred to its place, but the next morning she was again in the post of hegumen. The astonished monks could not understand what was the matter. Then it was returned to its place, and in the evening, when leaving work, all the doors were tightly closed.

But early in the morning the image again waited for the monks in the place of abbot. On the same night, the Mother of God came to a monk in a dream and said that she herself would be the abbot of this monastery and herself wished to control it.

Since then the Hilendar monastery is under the control of the Virgin, and the hegumen is not there.

Icon of Troučuchice in Russia

The first copy of this legendary image came to our homeland in the 16th century. Over time, with this copy, several more lists were made and installed in different temples of the country.

So, in one of the Russian churches there is evidence of miraculous healing of parishioners. The prayer of the icon of the Three Hands has healed many people who came to her with their last hope. It is noteworthy that many of the healed had similar traumas to that of John of Damascus.

So the image "works" today, and everyone can ask for health or just pray for those who are sick, because the Three Hands is an icon that actually heals.
