"VAZ-2110": the crankshaft sensor. Device, purpose and principle of operation

A modern car, whether it's a foreign car or a domestic "VAZ", is very difficult to imagine without the abundance of various electronic systems. All of them are divided into several categories according to their functional. It can be a control system for the engine, gearbox, chassis and interior. Relative to the first moment of one of the components of such a system is the crankshaft sensor. "VAZ-2110" and its subsequent models are equipped with them from the conveyor. Well, let's look at the features of this electronic device.

Characteristic

It should be noted that on vehicles "VAZ-2110" the crankshaft sensor can be referred to as a TDC or DPCV sensor. But whatever abbreviations it is not designated, it certainly is the only detail, the malfunction of which can lead to a complete stop of the internal combustion engine.

Cylinder Position Sensor Assignment

The main function of DGPV is the synchronization of the operation of the ignition system and fuel injectors. Thus, a malfunction in the operation of this element can lead to an unstable functioning of the vehicle injection system. The principle of work in the signal giving about the position of the crankshaft to the electronic control unit is concluded.

Device and classification

Despite the fact that the sensor crankshaft "VAZ" can have a different design, the principle of its operation is based on a single electromagnetic effect. That is, the signal is formed without direct contact with the crankshaft.

The most common type of DCIP is induction. Such a detail consists of two main elements - a magnetized rod and a special winding. Induction sensors read information from the crankshaft toothed pulley. When a metal tooth passes near the DPPV, the latter forms an EMF, which is captured by the electronics. On the "VAZ-2110" crankshaft sensor is installed exactly induction type.

Also, the DPCV can be based on the Hall effect. Such a sensor is approximately the same as an inductive one, but when a metal shaft passes near it, resistance changes in the winding of the device. Constructively it consists of a permanent magnet.

It should be noted that both the first and second types of sensors are used to read data from the crankshaft pulley. It can be cogged and all-metal. In the latter embodiment, there is a special recess that passes the sensor and generates a signal applied to the engine ECU of the vehicle.

Where is the crankshaft sensor installed on the VAZ-2110?

A is located on the bracket near the pulley of the generator drive. This location of the device is very inconvenient to replace, so it is additionally connected to a long wire with a connector. Usually its length is up to 70-80 centimeters. How this item looks like you can see in the photo on the right.

When replacing the DPCV, a gap is set between the pulley and the sensor itself. Ideally, the distance between the synchronization disk and the core is no more than one and a half millimeters. This value may vary depending on the arrangement of the gaskets between the DPCV and the seat.

Crankshaft sensor "VAZ-2110": faults and signs of breakdowns

Can this part break? Usually the VAZ-2110 crankshaft sensor rarely fails. However, if it is malfunctioning (or the generator pulley is malfunctioning), a red "CHECK ENGINE" lamp lights up on the instrument panel , which literally translates as "check the engine". In this case, the code for the controller errors is 19 or 35.

Of course, the most difficult case in the event of a crankshaft sensor failure is the impossibility of a normal engine start. In this case, it can be said that the DGP does not work at all. The solution to this problem can only serve as a complete replacement.

Very often the crankshaft position sensor breaks down gradually. At the same time, the driver feels a significant drop in engine power, starts "dips" and even detonation at high revs. Also a symptom of the malfunctions of such a device may be floating (unstable) engine speed at idle. On the "VAZ-2110" injector sensor crankshaft sometimes becomes the cause of increased fuel consumption. Although it is possible, the problem is hidden in a weak contact or in a wire break, but in any case, this part needs to be checked.

Device Diagnostics

The crankshaft position sensor is checked by a special tester. All diagnostics consists in measurement by an ohmmeter of resistance of winding ДПКВ. Normal values should be between 800 and 900 ohms. If the received data do not correspond to the norm, you need to check the quality of the connection of the contacts. If this did not help, a new part is acquired. The very replacement of the crankshaft sensor is so simple that even a novice motorist can cope with it.

Sometimes it happens that the malfunction of this device is caused by mechanical damage to the winding. Often this happens when performing any repair work in the car's hood space, or between a tooth pulley and a DWP, some foreign object is formed. In this regard, many motorists recommend carrying a spare crankshaft position sensor in the trunk. The cost for it is very small, but it is very important for the engine.
