Ukrainian military leader Valery Geletey: biography, activities and interesting facts

In the history of absolutely any modern state there are individuals whose contribution to the development of the country is almost impossible to estimate. And sometimes the benefits of their work are not at all. It is worth mentioning, rather, how much these people, in principle, corresponded to the position they occupy. But only an experienced professional can give an assessment of the work of a civil servant. We in this article will get acquainted with an extraordinary personality named Valery V. Gelethey. The biography and the compromising material collected on it, will be considered in the most detailed image.

Just the facts

The future general was born on August 28, 1967 in the Transcarpathian region of the Ukrainian SSR, in the village of Verkhny Koropets. His father's name was Viktor Petrovich, and his mother was Larissa Georgievna. At the moment, Gelethey Valery is married and has two sons. The brother of a high-ranking officer is a matchmaker to the former head of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine Viktor Balog.

Education and emergency service

In the period from 1985 to 1987 Valery Gelethey was in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the USSR and was a junior inspector of the military unit 2142, located in the Western Border District of the KGB.

In 1990, the former border guard became a militiaman after the successful completion of the Ivano-Frankivsk specialized secondary school of police. Four years later, the officer became a graduate of the Ukrainian Academy of Internal Affairs.

Service in the MIA

In the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Valery began working in 1988. And two years later he was appointed to the post of operative criminal investigation of the city of Mukachevo. In 1994, he was promoted to the Main Directorate of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the country. In 1996, he became the head of the Minsk district department, which deals with the fight against organized crime in Kiev. Since 1998, he became the first deputy head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the city of Kiev.

During the period from 2000 to 2006 he visited several high positions of the structures of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

Transition to the state security

From October 2006 to May 2007, he headed the Main Service, which deals with the activities of law enforcement bodies under the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine.

On May 25, 2007 Valery Gelethey was appointed to the post of the head of the Department of State Security of Ukraine. The appointment of the officer occurred at one of the most critical moments of the political crisis in the state, because at that time the dispute between the political forces almost led to the confrontation of the siloviki, who, on the one hand, obeyed the president and, on the other, the head of the Cabinet. The parliamentary majority at that time regarded the statement of Geleta in office as an attempt by the head of state to put into practice a forceful solution to the conflict with the aim of suppressing any resistance of dissidents.

One of the highlights of the struggle for power was the confrontation between the state security and the militia "Berkut", who fought for the building of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine after the dismissal of the head of this department Svyatoslav Piskun. As a result, the GPU opened criminal proceedings against Valery for a number of articles, but ultimately the court rejected the decision to initiate criminal proceedings.

During his tenure as head of state protection, Gelethey was able to become famous for having repeatedly stated about the attempted assassinations of politicians like Lutsenko, Tymoshenko and Zhvania. However, the officer did not provide any evidence, and after a while and completely refused his words, referring to the fact that it was mistaken to take such information on public display.

In addition, Valery V. Gelethey summoned MP Nestor Shufrich to a hand-to-hand fight, but their fight did not take place, as the initiator of the battle said that his challenge was comic, and all ended with a friendly handshake. In 2008, Gelethey received the rank of general-colonel.

July 14, 2009 Valery was dismissed from his post. In the period from 2011 to 2014 he held the post of vice-president of one of the banks of Ukraine.

In March 2014 he was once again appointed head of state security, but, true, already with the prefix "acting".

Return to the army

On July 3, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted for Valery Viktorovich Gelethey, whose biography has many dark spots, became Minister of Defense of the country. 260 people's representatives voted for this appointment.

During his tenure as head of the defense department, the general stepped up the process of increasing the army's combat skills and created a special service that identifies various enemy intelligence networks on the territory of the country. Also, the new minister believed that the best option for the army model for Ukraine would be the Swiss, characterized by a large number of reservists.

Scandalous behavior

Ukrainian military leader Gelethey Valery from the first minutes of his appointment to the ministerial post was "famous" for having signed the oath with a closed cap. This fact did not go unnoticed by the ubiquitous media and was immediately immediately replicated. In addition, the general publicly promised that the Victory Parade will be held in Sevastopol, which, as you know, has not happened to this day.

In September 2014, the deputies from the Batkivshchyna Party appealed to the president with a strict demand to dismiss Geleta, because of his fault there were mistakes during the bloody battles near Ilovaisky. Also, the minister was charged with the bad organization of the rear of the army, corruption, public criticism of combatants of volunteer units. The general responded with a lawsuit demanding that Tymoshenko publicly apologize to the Ukrainian soldiers for their words.

But the dismissal of Geletai was held, and it happened on October 12, 2014. Subsequently, it was he who was named the main culprit of the Ilovaysky cauldron.

And again the state security

On October 15, 2014, the Colonel-General was again appointed to the post of head of state protection of Ukraine.

There is an opinion that Valery V. Gelethey has a very influential Ukrainian politician, Baloha, among his patrons. In any case, it was after the latter left the post of the head of the President's Secretariat that the career of the officer himself quickly ended. By the way, it is worth noting that he grew up in three years from the colonel of militia to the army general-colonel, which also leads to the appropriate reflection.

In conclusion, I would like to note one more fact: on October 2, 2014 against Geleta, a criminal case was opened by the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation on charges of organizing massacres, genocide of civilians and using prohibited methods of war. The general himself believes that all the claims put forward against him are groundless, and he is generally a victim, as he and his family regularly receive SMS messages with threats.
