Tuchkov Bridge (St. Petersburg). Tuchkov Bridge: photo

St. Petersburg is unthinkable without bridges. Most tourists come here to walk along the romantic embankments of the Neva River or ride along the canals on a pleasure boat. And even more. Tourists especially get up in the middle of the night to look at the bridging of the bridges and how imposingly large ships sail under them. However, these transport routes linking different shores, bring a lot of problems to the inhabitants of North Palmira. Especially nervous motorists, because the bridges of St. Petersburg (in 2014 was a record in this regard) constantly and often unpredictably closed for repairs. And what does the near future predict? Which of the three hundred bridges of St. Petersburg will be closed for reconstruction? And what will be the timetable for the distribution of those thirteen who are passing large vessels to the Neva and its numerous sleeves? In this article we will only talk about the Tuchkov Bridge. Its history, name, location and even the layout of the wiring will be described here.

Location:

More precise location of this facility is Russia, St. Petersburg. Tuchkov bridge connects both banks of the Little Neva. It is laid from Bolshoy Prospekt of the Petrograd Side to the Kadetska Street and the First Line of the Vasilievsky Island. Find this bridge on the map of St. Petersburg is quite simple. He rests on the quay Makarov on Vasilievsky Island. And on the Petrograd side, it adjoins the prospectuses of Dobrolyubov and Bolshiy. To it there is also a Zhdanovskaya embankment. The nearest metro station to Tuchkov Bridge is called "Sportivnaya". Its name is the stop of the Petersburg subway was not accidental. In the vicinity are the stadium "Petrovsky" and the Sports Palace "Jubilee". But when they built the metro, the station was thought to be called "Tuchkov Bridge". But it did not work out. Near the bridge are also located other attractions of the northern capital - the Prince Vladimir Cathedral and Tuchkov Buyan Island.

origin of name

As for the emergence of an interesting bridge name, historians have three equal versions. This building was built in the middle of the eighteenth century. The bridge for a long time was officially named "Nikolsky", but the popular rumor persistently called him Tuchkov. It would be most reasonable to assume that he received his name in honor of the island through which he lies. However, there is an opinion that Tuchkov Buyan got his name from the bridge, and not vice versa. One of the engineers who erected this crossing in the 18th century (at that time wooden) was an AV Tuchkov. The bridge could also be named after the merchant's name, which had warehouses of timber on the banks of the Little Neva. In 1758 four businessmen, among whom was Avraham Tuchkov, applied to the Senate for the transfer of several bridges to the "hereditary maintenance". For this they pledged to connect Vasilievsky Island with the Petrograd side.

History of construction

The artel of four entrepreneurs kept their word, and already in the same year in 1758 on the alignment of Maly Prospect on Vasilievsky Island appeared Nikolsky Bridge. It was wooden. At depth, he composed of the scout part, and in shallow water leaned on the piles. Its length was nine hundred meters, which made it the longest bridge in St. Petersburg. In 1835 he was rebuilt. An earthen dam from Dobrolyubov Avenue (then it was called Alexandrovsky) was brought up. Tuchkov Bridge then became a drawbridge. The movable part consisted of four wooden frames. A bridge was built using conventional hand winches. This wooden structure was burnt to ashes in 1870 from criminal negligence: someone threw a cigarette butt. Immediately began work on the construction of a new bridge. In 1920 he was rebuilt into a twenty-span. Immediately after the war, the wooden parts were replaced by metal parts. Wagon winches began to work from electricity. Another bridge reconstruction survived in 1960. Only one of the twenty spans was a drawbar, while under another two small ships could safely cruise.

How does the Tuchkov Bridge look like today?

In 1964 the Mariinsky system was replaced by a more perfect Volga-Baltic channel. It is time to adopt a new decision to pass large-capacity vessels. Therefore, the bridge was again closed for reconstruction. It was carried out by the engineers of the enterprise "Lengiproinzhproekt" B. B. Levin and V. V. Demchenko under the project of famous Soviet architects LA Noskov and P. A. Areshev. Then I bought the Tuchkov Bridge, repair, or rather, a complete reconstruction of which was completed in 1965, a modern look. The number of flights decreased from twenty to three. Only one of them - in the middle - a drawbridge. Now trams, cars, pedestrians run along the bridge. Naturally, for the safety of cars and people, the building is sometimes closed for repairs. And this brings confusion to the movement of public and private transport.

Bridging

St. Petersburg can not be called Venice. Large ships strive to get into the heart of the city center, and they are not limited to parking in the seaport. Therefore, when the navigation period lasts until the end of April lasts until November, it is necessary to skip ships. Some of them pass under the spans and so, but especially large ocean liners still require more space. That's what happens at night in bridging. St. Petersburg has such a whole thirteen. This Blagoveschensky, Volodarsky, Tuchkov, to whom this article is devoted, and others. To look at this action, tourists are flocking to the bridges. However, for St. Petersburgers it is - a real mess. In 2005, the Great Obukhovsky Bridge was built, along which it is possible to constantly get from one shore to another. However, it is too far from the center. Sometimes it is more advantageous to wait for the resumption of traffic on some bridge than to get on the bypass highway.

Distribution chart

Fortunately for Petersburgers and unfortunately for tourists, beautiful drawbridges open their lifting parts only at night. This spectacle is especially beautiful in summer, during the white nights. But when do you need to approach the Tuchkov Bridge to admire it? Also, the schedule for lifting the mobile part of the building is interested in motorists who are thinking of driving through the Tuchkov Bridge. The wiring is carried out twice a night. For the first time the movement stops exactly at two o'clock. Spans rise to their place only at 2:55, that is, almost an hour you can admire the way the small ships pass through the Malaya Neva. The second time the wiring is from half past four to five in the morning.

The value of the Tuchkov Bridge

For St. Petersburg, this highway is strategically important. All the enterprises located on the Vasilievsky Island have no communication with the railway, and therefore the only way to deliver raw materials and take out the products is through the Tuchkov Bridge. But an intensive car flow is created not only by trucks. The bridge leads to Krestovsky, Kamenny and Elagin islands - favorite places of rest for residents of St. Petersburg. Initially, this structure was not designed for such a traffic flow, and therefore the highway was often reconstructed and expanded. The authorities warn in advance when the passage through it will be closed. Tuchkov bridge is reconstructed also for aesthetic reasons. So, in 2003, the backlight was brought to him, which made it unique and unrepeatable.

Will it be possible to admire the Tuchkov Bridge in 2015

An intensive traffic flow adversely affected the condition of the road surface. Last year, this important highway was repeatedly closed for repairs. Sometimes only one-way traffic was allowed. But at the end of September the journey was completely closed. Tuchkov Bridge local authorities intend to reconstruct this year. To avoid a transport collapse when the Vasilievsky Island was reported to the Petrograd side, it was decided to leave a one-way traffic - towards the city center. Back will be possible to get on the Exchange Bridge. In this case, the width of the roadway on Tuchkov will be only eleven meters. The highway is planned to be closed in May 2015, after the completion of the construction of the second exit from the metro station "Sportivnaya". Tuchkov Bridge, the repair of which will cost the treasury of 2.4 billion rubles, will be fully opened only by the end of 2016.

Options

Despite the fact that the construction is made of reinforced concrete, it creates the impression of airiness. The bridge seems to float above the waters of the Neva. It consists of three spans, one of which, fifty meters in length, opens upward. The total length of the bridge is more than two hundred meters, and the width is 36 meters.
