Traction batteries: advice on choice and feedback about manufacturers

It is practically impossible to imagine the normal operation of modern warehouses without using a variety of handling equipment. All kinds of electronic carts, stackers, loaders and other specialized equipment work at the expense of electricity, receiving it from such devices as traction batteries. However, not everyone understands why it is customary to use this option of electrical supply and what such devices are in principle.

What it is?

Traction batteries are specialized devices designed to generate electricity. Such equipment is reusable, and at the same time it is able to accumulate and subsequently give energy with certain parameters. In the process of charging the battery of forklifts, the conversion of electrical energy into the necessary chemical potential is realized when the energy is stored by the electrolyte. In the case of connecting a battery with an electric motor through specialized metal terminals, the chemical potential is transformed again into electrical energy. This process is similar in the majority of cases, regardless of which traction batteries are used, but may differ in some nuances.

What do they give?

For modern warehouse equipment, one of the most important parameters is the provision of autonomous work. Only traction batteries allow us to provide such properties, in which these technical means have become so widespread.

For completely unimpeded movement throughout the warehouse, it was necessary to use an oversized power supply system, since direct connection to the power grid eventually made this technique very limited in space, and at the same time rather inconvenient if several trucks were used simultaneously in the room. The use as a main source of specialized long-term and gasoline engines caused too much pollution of the ambient air, that is, the premises simply became gassed.

What are their advantages?

Traction batteries (12 volts and others) made it possible to make forklifts work absolutely safe from an ecological point of view. In addition, the complete absence of any hazardous exhausts has made it possible to use such equipment in various enclosed spaces, which are characterized by limited ventilation conditions. At certain enterprises, special sanitary standards are introduced, which can not be met if standard internal combustion engines are used. Traction batteries (12 volts and others) do not emit any chemical exhausts, emissions or any other harmful for the human body secretions.

How to choose?

To increase the overall service life of the electronic engine of a variety of storage equipment, you need to select the right batteries. In order to select the most optimal traction batteries for electric motors, you need to compare the characteristics of your engine, as well as the parameters of the selected device.

In most cases, initially recommend to pay attention to the voltage, which is basically 12 volts. Next, you need to deal with the capacity of the battery, since it will directly depend on the time during which the technician can work without charging.

If you have any doubts as to how well you chose the device, you should contact qualified specialists, but if you can not get qualified support from outside, we recommend that you follow certain tips:

  • In the majority of cases, standard and gel traction batteries have a special purpose, that is, they are used with a certain type of storage equipment. Thus, based on the instructions of the battery and forklift you are using, you can already draw certain conclusions.
  • You should choose the batteries depending on what kind of battery you used before, if you previously used similar equipment.
  • The dimensions of the seat, as well as the distance between the terminals in the construction of the forklift used by you must match the dimensions of the new battery.
  • Among other things, the important thing is also what price is offered for traction batteries, as not everyone can afford the use of the most high-quality equipment. Basically the price for such devices starts from 8000 rubles.

Kinds

Traction battery for the boat engine, like other similar devices, is divided into several types:

  • With a dense electrolyte;
  • With liquid electrolyte.

With liquid

In most cases, liquid electrolyte is used in modern traction batteries. The main advantage of such batteries is that they are fairly simple to repair and maintain. In the event that during operation, such a device does not break the integrity of the housing, but at the same time damage the steel plates, then with simple replacement of the electrolyte, the traction battery for the boat engine or other devices eventually acquires its starting characteristics. In comparison with gel analogues, they are distinguished by a small price, which is also quite important.

With thick

Batteries traction (boat and all the others), which contain the electrolyte as a jelly-like composition, do not require the formation of any special conditions for their charging. This possibility is due to the unique features of this design. Such batteries do not require any special maintenance, which means that they do not need plugs, technical holes or other parts through which depressurization could occur. Among other positive qualities of such batteries, it is worth noting also that the electrolyte can not penetrate beyond this design.

Such batteries provide for the presence of certain structural features, which ultimately noticeably affect certain characteristics. In particular, this refers to the specific and nominal capacity, the possibility of urgent charging, the number of cycles of a full charge and discharge, all kinds of temperature limitations, and a number of other parameters.

Features of operation

In order for such batteries to eventually fully develop the service life, you need to operate them in accordance with certain rules:

  • Carefully monitor the external condition of the battery used. In particular, it is important to check the presence of any faults in the insulation, the oxidation of the terminals, the integrity of the housing or the leakage of the electrolyte.
  • It is necessary to regularly carry out thorough cleaning of all major components.
  • It is important to check the level of the electrolyte, and if necessary, top up it.
  • Batteries that are not in use should be stored in cool rooms without access to direct sunlight, as well as negative environmental influences.
  • Charging must be performed in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements specified in the enclosed operating instructions.

Security measures

It is worth noting a few basic operating measures:

  • If the boat engine is occluded due to the winding of the algae, it is necessary to completely disconnect the trolling motor terminals from the battery before the blades are cleaned of foreign elements.
  • In the event that the protection system is triggered, the voltage is completely removed from the battery terminals. In order to reset the protection system, that is, to reactivate the battery, it is necessary to completely disconnect the load from the terminals and wait a little. The time for self-disabling protection directly depends on which system was activated at the moment.
  • It is not recommended to use the "crocodile" electric motor terminals, because this significantly reduces the overall efficiency of using radiators for cooling the battery, and also reduces its life.
  • Always check the connection quality of the motor terminals to the wires. In the event that the crimp connection is of poor quality, ultimately when the equipment is used, excessive heating of the battery radiators can occur because of too high a transient resistance. Also it is fraught with a decrease in power or a decrease in the total number of discharge-charge cycles of a battery. The most optimal option is to solder the terminals to the wires, if there is such an opportunity.
  • The battery must not be immersed in water. It is best to store it in a cool dry place in case it is not used for its intended purpose.
  • Do not restrict air access to the battery outputs, because the battery contacts are also the radiators of the battery controller.
  • It is highly not recommended to use or for a long time to leave the battery in close proximity to sources of high temperatures.

By following these requirements, you will be able to provide the maximum service life for your device.
