There is no access to the folder: how to restore permissions and permissions in Windows 7

With the fact that operating systems like Windows 7 and higher often give out messages that there is no access to the folder, most users are familiar. Sometimes it is blocked for system security, sometimes the problem lies in the so-called "super administrator" account or in the TrustedInstaller system. Now it will be considered how to open access to Windows 7 folders , including individual files and registry keys.

The essence of the problem of lack of access to files, folders and registry keys

Blocking access attempts to perform any actions on files, folders or system registry keys in most cases is related only to security considerations (so that the user by ignorance or accidentally could not change the objects vital to the system).

However, you can often see the appearance of messages that there is no access to the folder, even, it would seem, for the most common objects, with no system connected. It may very well be that such objects simply have an attribute that prohibits their opening or editing. In the simplest case (for example, for executable EXE files), they should be opened on behalf of the administrator.

On the other hand, sometimes you have to use system components to gain control over computer processes. How to act in this situation, now we'll see.

There is no access to the folder: permissions checking

First, you should check if the lock is installed. In the standard "Explorer" or any other file manager, right-click on the file to call the context menu and go to the property line.

There are two attributes at the bottom. In this case, we are interested in the first ("Read Only"). If there is a tick in front of it, you can view the contents of the file, but you can not edit or save changes. But this is the most primitive option.

Can not access the Windows 7 folder : configure security settings

To gain access to all items in Windows 7 and higher, you will have to set up security settings.

You can only access the Windows folder or a separate file in this way. Click on the selected object with the right mouse button and select the properties menu, where we go to the security tab. At the bottom of the window there is an "Advanced" button, using which, we enter additional parameters.

Here we are interested in the "Owner" tab. At the bottom of the window we press the button for changing the settings, we place the cursor either on our own account or on the administrator group and click on the "OK" button. If the setting is made not for the file, but for the directory, you will additionally need to uncheck the replacement line for the owner of objects and subcontainers.

In some cases, in the "Explorer" in the menu of the view on the tab with the same name, you may need to uncheck the field of using simple public access if the object has such an attribute).

Enabling access to the registry entries

To access the editing of keys and registry entries, it is not always enough to run the regedit command or the executable EXE executable with the same name as the administrator. Some subkeys can still be out of control, and the system will again display a message stating that there is no access to the folder.

In this case, the right part of the registry is selected in the left part of the registry, after which it is right-clicked and the context menu is called where you want to select the permissions section. In it we use the "Advanced" button, and then repeat the steps described above.

Setting permissions for your own account

At this point, you need to use the same security tab, where the button for changing groups and records for a particular object is enabled.

Next, click the add button, enter your "accounting" and confirm the addition. Now in the lower window in the permissions column in all fields we tick and save the changes. Note that this configuration method is only suitable for single objects (files and directories).

Using the command line

Now let's see how to access the folder using standard command line utilities. These are the icacls and takeown commands.

Run the console as administrator from the "Run" menu (cmd). Starting the command line with administrator rights is mandatory, regardless of the account the user is currently working on. The only exception is access under the administrator account, which is disabled by default.

Further in the console the command takeown / f "full path to file" is prescribed (restoration of access by means of reassignment of the owner). The path to the file is specified without quotes.

The second command looks like this: icacls "full path to file" / grant "account name": f. (Again, all without quotes). This utility transfers control rights to the selected object of the specified account.

If for some reason you did not give the result of these two commands, you should restart the system in safe mode (F8 at system startup), then perform the operations again.

Conclusion

Here, the most effective and simplest methods were given, allowing access to any objects of Windows-systems. Some experts advise you to use the so-called tweaks of the system registry, but this method is quite laborious and suits only for users with the necessary knowledge, or system administrators. But in general, with the registry should be very careful, and when you try to edit it - at least at least make a backup for a quick recovery of the system after changing its keys and records.
