The place where the sun sets

Sunrise and sunset - a truly magnificent picture. In all its beauty, it unfolds in the open space - outside the city, in the field and especially at sea. The part of the horizon where the sun rises and sets, is painted in crimson colors, as if an invisible artist touches the firmament with a magic brush.

How does the sun rise?

Early in the morning the horizon in the east begins to slowly blush - it is engaged in the morning dawn. The night gives way to the day, gradually becomes lighter, and the dawn is flooding the lower edge of the sky with a fiery light.

Then, from the part of the horizon where the sun rises, the upper edge of his disc slowly appears. Rising, it increases in size, until it completely appears before the awakened earth in its royal radiance. At this moment, it seems that it, like a huge fireball, hovers above its surface. But this does not last long. The sun, moving from left to right, begins to rise above the horizon. Its color changes from red to orange, and then to yellow. Dimensions of the light are reduced, reaching the highest point above the horizon, it looks like a small light yellow ball.

How does the sun go down?

Having reached the highest point of its location, the sun begins the way down, without changing the direction of movement. The lower it descends, the closer to the evening the picture of his morning ascension is repeated more distinctly in the sky. Part of the horizon, where the sun sets, is painted in red and fiery colors, and the disc itself becomes larger. And now the evening dawn with a fierce fire blazes on the edge of the sky, illuminating it, until the luminary disappears behind the horizon. This spectacle is fascinating and very beautiful. Why is the sky colored at sunrise and sunset?

As you know, the Earth is surrounded by an air shell - an atmosphere that extends about 1000 km. In the lower layers it has a high density. The higher from the surface of the Earth, the less this indicator becomes, and the atmosphere is more sparse.

Scientists have determined: the thicker the layer of the air envelope, the less rays it passes through itself, and it refers primarily to the emission of blue and green, which can not be said about the red, orange and yellow rays.

Since the place where the sun sets and rises is in the lower layers of the atmosphere, its disk looks red and purple during this period. Rising then into the more sparse layers, the Sun changes color, becoming lighter and yellow.

What happens at the poles?

The scientists formally divide the structure of the Sun into 4 parts:

  • The core (the central part) where the nuclear reaction takes place, namely: hydrogen burns and turns into helium;
  • A radiant zone in which the gases move moderately, transferring energy from layer to layer outside;
  • A convective zone consisting of rapidly moving gases;
  • The area of the atmosphere that extends far beyond the visible part of the luminary, and in the period of the solar eclipse it is visible as a pearl aureole - the crown.

Everything in our life is passing away, but the daily sunrise is still unchanged, moving its heavenly route for many billions of years.
