A satirist is a joker? What is satire?

In modern society, humor has become one of the ways to combat depression, sadness and disappointment. Anecdotes and jokes can save a person in an awkward situation, and sometimes lead to his second half. However, the notions "humorist" and "satirist" should be distinguished.

A satirist is a person who not only jokes, but also ridicules the vices of people, absurd things and events. Here comes out the term "satire", which is strengthened not only in politics and philosophy, but also in fiction.

The meaning of the word "satirist"

Humor is a jolly good-natured joke and anecdotes that can lift the mood in the company of friends or colleagues. It should not be confused with satire, which has become today a separate genre of literature, theater and song.

The satirist is the author of satirical works of art. This is the person who represents this direction in literature, painting, sculpture and other areas of art. Such people do not always find recognition among the masses, but many domestic and foreign authors became known precisely because of their comic works.

In colloquial speech, a satirist is a person who describes any event or action from an evil side. He does not miss the use of sarcastic ridicule over any act or vice of his companion.

Satire is a progressive genre of literature

Any satirist is a denouncer of moral and social vices, which are ridiculed in an evil and condemning form. Satire is a field of literature, theater, sculpture and song that uses these qualities to show the shortcomings of individuals (politicians, representatives of another religion or nationality, directors of enterprises, colleagues or friends).

To satire does not turn into a moralizing sermon, it is diluted with elements of humor and sarcasm. From this satire became one of the popular genres of literature of the XVIII-XIX centuries, when the flowering of art as a whole was observed.

Examples of satire

On stage, artists can often perform with their satirical performances or song verses. Also to professional satirists can be attributed parodists who ridicule the shortcomings of people with the help of gestures, facial expressions or caustic phrases.

In the literature examples of satire can serve the works of M. Twain, M. Zoshchenko, J. Swift or ME Saltykov-Shchedrin. Among actors, Charlie Chaplin comes to mind immediately, about which there are many humorous stories.

In the modern world, with the advent of the Internet, there was such a satirical device as trolling. It is used on forums, in social networks and chats. Also trolling occurs in video games, it is used by some bloggers.
